Interesting point. It's always worth checking out newer material if for nothing more than a comparison with the old.
I wonder why books written on WW1 and WW2 in the 1960s still have such a hold on us. Reminded recently by history buffs singing the praises of Shirer, and gushing about Horne - but have read nothing written since.

The DH Dragon Rapide is a beautiful aircraft but this larger 4 engined Express might be even nicer!
14 January 1934. First flight of the de Havilland DH-86 Express E.2. British four-engine biplane passenger aircraft powered by four Gipsy Six engines, single cockpit. Designed to meet the requirements of QANTAS airline.

Our old Dambusters show is due an overhaul this year to mark the 80th anniversary of the raid. Possibly time for us to add a few song and dance numbers and turn it into a musical? Suggestions for potential titles please.

Top WW2 cat content!
In 1940 Smoky the cat was rescued after an air raid. Miss Ann Twynam of Paddington took him home, and nursed him back to health. She has taught Smoky to salute, and now whenever service friends visit, Smoky loves to do his saluting turn.

Interesting detail about D Day vehicles
One of the questions on the @Wehaveways livestream 2 weeks ago was about the Landing Vehicle Tracked (LVT), or Buffalo, and why they weren’t used at Normandy. So I thought it would be handy to explain one major reason they couldn’t be deployed.

Great footage of bouncing bomb tests, very timely for us as we are looking to re-engineer our dam busters show for the new year.
We've all had those "oh sh*t" moments... But perhaps not quite the same as the person who took this filming gig, then realised they were in the direct path of a bouncing bomb test. 💩💩💩 © IWM MTE 3136

Brilliant map detailing payment in eels!
just so you know: a lot of people in medieval england paid their rent in eels. if you live in england, you can use this map of real, documented eel rents to possibly find out how many eels your home town was worth....thank me later! historiacartarum.org/eel-ren…

This look great! (Here at History Tellers we love building 1:1 replicas so fully approve). And the film sounds good too.
The only Christmas story you need - Frederick Forsyth's "The Shepherd". Here's the #Vampire we built for a new adaptation earlier this year, starring John Travolta, and filmed at West Raynham. Sadly no news on its release. #norfolk #avgeek #aviationlovers #aviationphotography

Amazing
Wow, an incredible find from the ice in the Italian Alps😍 The remains of at least 15 Ibex (skulls, bones and even fur!) have melted out of the ice on the summit of Mount Lodner, at 3200 m. The first radiocarbon date is back and it is 7000 years old😮

A really interesting thread on the relation of Christmas and other festivals that were celebrated around the same time.
The annual "Christmas **IS** pagan!!" festival has kicked off a little later this year, but it seems it's now arrived with full force. This is where people who haven't studied this subject at all, but can Google some crappy online pop history articles, get very cross with ...
