Could new CBK rules affect your bank dividends? The proposed rules would link dividend payouts to CET1, a bank’s capital strength. In simple terms, banks with a smaller financial cushion may have to keep more of their profits instead of paying shareholders. For Hisa investors, that means watching more than profits and dividend history. Capital strength matters too. The rules are still proposed. Stay informed and invest smarter with Hisa. #HisaApp #NSE #Investing #Kenya #Dividends

Quickmart could soon become the next major Kenyan retailer to list on the NSE giving investors a chance to own a piece of the supermarket chain. Here’s what we know so far: • NSE listing: Quickmart intends to list on the Main Investment Market Segment, subject to regulatory approval. • 50% of the company: The offer will involve 2 billion existing shares, representing 50% of Quickmart. • No new capital: These are existing shares being sold by Sokoni Retail Kenya. Quickmart itself will not receive the proceeds and will continue funding expansion mainly from internally generated cash flows. • Current footprint: 72 stores across 16 counties, with about 5 million customer transactions every month and 2.5 million Q-Points loyalty members. • Financials: In FY2025, Quickmart reported KES50.4 billion in revenue and KES1.7 billion in adjusted profit after tax. Revenue grew at an 18.4% CAGR between FY2021 and FY2025. • Growth plans: The company is targeting 100+ stores in Kenya over the medium term. But there’s one big question investors can’t answer yet: What price will Quickmart’s shares be offered at? The offer price, valuation, application period, minimum investment and listing date will be important details to watch when the offer prospectus and approvals are released. The listing has been announced. The investment decision comes after we know the price.

Friday brought a broad-based rebound at the NSE, with all five major indices recovering after the sharp sell-off earlier in the week. The Banking Index led the recovery, gaining 2.87%, while the NSE 10 rose 2.11%. However, turnover fell to KSh1.6 billion from KSh3.5 billion on Thursday, suggesting that Friday's recovery came on lighter trading activity.

The two developments highlight an important theme in the Kenyan market right now: large-cap stocks remain sensitive to both investor sentiment and fundamental changes in the operating environment. Friday's rally showed renewed demand for major banks after the September correction, but the proposed CBK capital rules introduce another factor for investors to consider, particularly when assessing the sustainability of bank dividends. For investors tracking the banking sector, earnings alone may no longer tell the whole story. Capital buffers, dividend payout capacity and regulatory requirements will also be important to watch.

HIDDEN GEM FRIDAY: Energy Transfer (NYSE: ET) Over 130,000 miles of pipelines move natural gas, crude oil and refined products across the US and Energy Transfer collects fees along the way. The stock is up 29% YTD, with a 6.3% dividend yield and analysts seeing 15–20% upside. The catch? Significant debt and a more complex MLP tax structure. America’s energy highway + 6% dividend. This is no longer just a mild pullback. Yesterday's broad-based selling, particularly across banks and large-cap stocks, shows that the market correction has gained momentum. The important thing now is to watch whether selling pressure begins to stabilise or whether we see further declines in the large-cap counters that drove the earlier rally.
