“Instead of treating the entire gland, if we could identify the area that has the disease and focus treatment solely on that area, we're able to avoid some of that collateral damage and improve the patient's quality of life,” explained Dr. Manuel Ozambela, Pedro’s treating physician and a urologic surgical oncologist at @BaptistHealthSF. Prostate cancer survivor Pedro was the first patient ever to undergo PSMA fusion-guided HIFU for prostate cancer. Under the care of Dr. Ozambela and the Baptist Health team, PSMA PET imaging, @FocalOneHIFU, and artificial intelligence (AI) were used to precisely target the cancer while sparing healthy tissue.
