It has been so disappointing to watch our elected and appointed officials in TX disparage public ed as part of a narrative to push vouchers. As a conservative I feel completely abandoned by republican state leaders. If that weren’t bad enough, elected R’s are not only neglecting conservatives in public ed but they speak down to us with disdain. This morning our local elected State Board of Education member @willhickman asked Commissioner Morath @MikeMorath about @SBISD budget troubles. I thank Will Hickman for advocating for us. Morath dismisses our budget crisis as mismanagement of “one-time” federal funds meant to address learning loss due to COVID. In the clip Morath says that unlike most other districts in TX we didn’t understand those were one-time funds. We DID and personally reviewed that with him in Austin. He is lying to distract away from the funding issue we face. It’s lazy and dishonest. SBISD has already eliminated over $20M in ESSER related supports including 123 positions. We did that LAST SPRING. We spent 65% of those federal $s in the classroom and our improvement in scores since COVID show the money was used effectively. We now have another $35M to eliminate from our budget which is largely due to inflation and no additional funding. I explained this to Morath in Austin earlier this year and he acknowledged it was a real challenge.

Am I naive that I am gobsmacked by the inaction of @txlege and @GovAbbott? 🤢 Do better. We won’t stop until you #fullyfundsbisd
📢 Contact @GovAbbott & request a Special Session to increase the Basic Allotment. On Mon., the 88th Texas Legislative Session ended with the Senate & House unable to agree on HB 100, the only legislation to increase public ed funding. 📲 bit.ly/DrBlaineUpdate-June2 #FullyFundSBISD

$1000 per kid more in @SBISD. Florida did it, so can you @TXlege! #fullyfundsbisd
The Basic Allotment per student has not been adjusted since 2019, placing Texas in the bottom 10 states for per student funding. Advocate today for a $1,000/student increase in the Basic Allotment: bit.ly/FullyFundSBISD #FullyFundSBISD

Let me get this straight - you are advocating for elected officials to have more control of their jurisdiction's property taxes? Totally agree. Now please return our taxpayers' money and don't collect any more. @TXLege you still have time to be a hero. Florida found a way.
What happens when one taxing unit makes decisions for everyone across the state? Well nothing good happens!! We heard disturbing testimony in my Senate Local Government Committee hearings on PFCs (Public Facility Corporations) from Williamson County Treasurer, Scott Heselmeyer @DSHeselmeyer, who talked about the city of Jarrell not knowing that money was coming off their tax rolls and San Marcos Mayor @janehughson testifying about a luxury apartment complex in Hays county that paid $366,000 in property taxes in 2021. Turned into a PFC, with a 99 year lease, and are claiming a total property tax exemption of $463,000 for 2022. #Txlege needs to stop any taxing unit from ripping a property value off of the tax rolls outside of their jurisdiction without the input of elected officials from those counties & cities. My SB 1546 passed unanimously and is off to the Texas House! #txlege @TPPF

I’m so proud of my sweet little school for truly taking #everychild to heart! The communication board is awesome and gets a lot of use already!
A communication board was installed at @FrostwoodElem! Designed by APPLE teacher Ms. Margraves & Special Education teacher Ms. Pace, the board provides nonverbal communicators a way to communicate with others at recess. A true demonstration of Collective Greatness! #SBISDProud💫

What leadership! I wish @GovAbbott would follow his lead. RDS has increased FL’s pub ed basic allotment by guess what amount? $1000 since 2019! That’s exactly what @SBISD and other districts have been advocating! Come on, #txlege! @TeamBettencourt
Florida’s new budget includes a categorical item for teacher salaries of over $1 billion — a $250 million increase over the previous period. Since 2019, Florida has invested more than $3 billion to raise teacher pay and increased our per student spending by nearly $1,000 per student.

📢 As the 88th Legislative Session continues, we ask for positive advocacy TODAY on HB 3028. HB 3028 aligns with SBISD's legislative priorities & would provide a 4% prepayment discount for districts that pay their recapture by Feb. 15. 📲 bit.ly/DrBlaineUpdate-May3 #FullyFundSBISD

HB 100 was voted down today. Take a good look at who voted NAY - @ManoForStateRep @LaceyHullTx Your constituents of SBISD demand to know WHY aren’t you for funding public schools? This conservative wants to know. #FullyFundSBISD @jennifer_blaine @SBISD @SBSpeaksTX

Did you know the amount of money the state has to spend over the next two years is 26% higher than it was for 2022-2023? Taxpayers and schools both need relief. There’s money for property tax relief and school funding. #txlege #FundTexasSchools

We aren't even asking to be average (25th in per-student spending). We just want to keep our F and not fall to last. Don't TX kids deserve that? Not to mention the TX economy that depends on educating our kids. #txed #txlege #justfunditTX #BustTheCap

Why do urban area teachers (districts w 20,000+ students) only get a $2,000 bonus while smaller/rural districts (< 20,000 students) get $6,000? Maybe part of the deal to get voucher support? 🤷🏻‍♂️ @SBISD @DanPatrick

If the Legislature does not raise the Basic Allotment by at least $1,000, beginning in 2024-25, there will be significant cuts to all services in SBISD. Here's what you need to know, from @jennifer_blaine & the SBISD Board of Trustees: bit.ly/DrBlaineUpdate-April1… #FullyFundSBISD
