Republicans (led by @JonHusted) had a bill to lower electricity prices.
It passed the House 417-3 - supported by everyone from the Freedom Caucus to the Squad.
Democrats in the Senate blocked it.
Why?
Because they want max pain going into November.

Hi @mehdirhasan, any reason why you left out the part of the Haaretz article that clarifies Sinwar equivocated on the term "civilian" to mean "not between age 18-50 (the vast majority of the hostages)"?
The way you presented it suggests if Israel agreed to the terms then virtually all, if not the vast majority of hostages would be released. But this is simply not true at all. If Israel agreed to such terms, the vast majority of the hostages (and civilian hostages by IHL definition) would not have been released on such an offer.
And that's not even getting into all the facts in dispute here and Haaretz's own journalists having a tendency to blatantly disregard truth in their reporting (happy to discuss this in detail), this is just what Haaretz admits!

El-Sayed doesn't dispute a single number.
Instead, he says "we want to quibble about the words," and that the word genocide "should be used because it speaks to the moral imperative of action."
Genocide is the word the world coined for the extermination of a people. It is the gravest charge there is. And El-Sayed's case for leveling it at the Jewish state isn't that it's true.
It's that it helps him get what he wants.

Fun fact, under Britain’s original Mandate Palestine post WW1, 77% of the land was partitioned and given to the Arabs. That land was called…Jordan! And they specifically did not make a Palestinian state.
Then they conquered the West Bank after the war in 1948/49 and annexed it, but left the Palestinians as refugees and not Jordanian citizens. They also didn’t make a separate Palestinian state after the PLO was found in 1964.
Then, when they lost in 1967, they took Palestinians living in Jordan with Jordanian citizenship and REMOVED THEM from citizenship. Kicked them out!!
