A disgrace: North Carolina is dead last in public school funding effort and second to last in public school funding level. Yet, the General Assembly is the only legislature in the country that hasn't passed a budget — and they're driving us off a fiscal cliff. We need a sound budget that funds our public schools, pays our teachers, and doesn't irresponsibly cut taxes for big corporations. 13newsnow.com/article/news/e…

Voucher results in one post: After mixed outcomes pre-2005, vouchers grew in several states. Most users were already in private school, but those who did switch suffered horrific outcomes. Subprime schools flooded the market, better schools rejected or pushed out new students.

A wonderful review of The Career Arts by Eric Johnson. Covers the value of networks + great attention to details like the powerful language of the 1862 Morrill Act on the need for land-grant institutions to integrate liberal and practical education. @PrincetonUPress
We’ve long known that a sound #education should fill a resume AND feed the soul. Ben Wildavksy certainly thinks so, and he lays out an excellent case in The Career Arts: Making the Most of College, Credential, and Connections. #highered #NCed #jobs publicedworks.org/2024/03/th…

Over the past 3 years, North Carolina has increased educational attainment by 4%. We now have 1.6 million people with a degree or credential, but we are still tracking behind the #2Millionby2030 goal. If we collectively fail to act now, we are projected to fall short by 71,000 individuals with degrees and credentials to fill available jobs by the year 2030.

For every 100 ninth-grade public school students in North Carolina, only 30 are earning a degree or credential within 6 years of graduating high school. That's less than a third of high schoolers, yet we know that two-thirds of our jobs require higher levels of education. North Carolina is losing too many of our students along this leaky pipeline. We know we can and we must do better! #2Millionby2030
