John Stewart never actually eats the meat in this dinner scene. When he tells Sheriff Kerry Kane he’s no longer vegan, it’s a deliberate lie. He needs her to invite him inside so he can get close to her son, Noah, and dig for anything that might point to Hal Jordan’s murder. Once they’re seated, he puts some of the meat on his plate to keep up the act of being a regular guest. But if you watch carefully, he only ever uses his fork on the salad and vegetables. By the time the conversation ends, the meat is still sitting there, completely untouched.
