Another one. Not even responding to anyone. It's getting ridiculous guys. And why is this Twitter garbage algo promoting this? Fuds, Bait, Fomo, Ragebait seems to be the only thing worth promoting. @grok - values, truth and principles are not X's sensible defaults, right?
I left Google DeepMind in June. Jacob is right: many researchers believe they are building something that could kill everyone on the planet. It was literally my day job to think about how to stop that.

"This is not a PR stunt" - Yes it is, or else you wouldn't need to mention it. "Progress isn't slowing" - It measurably is and has been shown in research Every lab is racing towards superintelligence. Nothing said that doesn't sound like fud.
I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.

The most effective networking strategy I’ve found has nothing to do with conferences, cocktail hours, cold emails, or any of the common ideas you hear. 1) Do interesting things. 2) Share them publicly. Like-minded people will come to you.

My favorite @elonmusk quote that I often send friends: Do not fear losing. “You will lose,” Musk says. “It will hurt the first fifty times. When you get used to losing, you will play each game with less emotion.” You will be more fearless, take more risks.

I find it odd when people turn businessmen into role models, and this seems to have become more common in the last 5-odd years. It's the same with idolising movie stars and sports stars. None of it should happen, really. 😀 When people come to me for advice, my first reaction is: What makes you think I'm qualified? Just because I've gotten lucky in business, does that make me qualified to advise you on your career, your life choices, or anything apart from how to get lucky? 😀 There are startup founders, especially people working in the social sector, whom I meet through @RainmatterOrg, and I think they are far smarter and more capable of giving advice than I am. If you still pick a role model, pick someone for a trait worth admiring in real life, not because of what they project to the outside world.

Expose yourself to things you have no clue about. Watch videos of secluded jungle tribes, walkthroughs of $100M houses, and summaries of school subjects you never studied. You’re far more likely to find what you’re looking for if you know all the looking places.
