Some people lament that their dog doesn’t play fetch. But they haven’t thought about how their dog might like to play. Some dogs will happily return a ball or stick in exchange for another ball. Some really want to track scents. Some dogs love a short game of tug of war.

“She’s just in a horse phase.” If a parent doesn’t support their child in an interest, then yes, it is just a phase.

When someone is having a baby or going on maternity leave, tell them, “That’s the most important work in the world.” Say it to the mother and the father. Elevate the status of parenthood.
