That's funny I literally had the opposite reaction. I told the guy I played Smite once like 10 years ago and he told me a 5 minute story and left. I didn't get a chance to say anything, but regardless dude seemed friendly and I'm down to initiate a conversation again with him.

I can tell why the interaction failed. first of all, you wanted to converse but all you did is invited the other person to be interested in you and ask question. It's jarring and like, YOU wanted to converse not them. It's weird when you make it about yourself so right away.
