Did you know you can go to Italy for Ziyarat? Did you know in Islam the disciples of Prophet Isa are known as the Hawariyun and they are highly respected? In Shia Islamic tradition Saint Peter is known as Sham'un al Safa or Simon the Pure. Shia texts identify him as the Wasi which means the designated successor of Prophet Isa. According to Shia belief, every major prophet appoints a successor by divine decree to guide the community after their departure. Just as Prophet Muhammad appointed Imam Ali, Prophet Isa appointed Sham'un al-Safa. He is recognized as the one who carried the authentic teachings of Isa forward. Shia hadith literature, including works by early scholars like Shaykh al-Saduq, contains narrations confirming his role as the Wasi. His theological role is treated very similarly to how Imam Ali is treated. Just as Prophet Muhammad appointed Imam Ali to guide the community Prophet Isa appointed Sham'un al Safa by divine decree to carry his authentic teachings forward. Because he is a divinely appointed successor and a revered figure you can literally go do Ziyarat to him in Italy. History holds that he is buried in Rome right beneath the altar of St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City. May God have mercy on his soul
