Replying to @WilliamShatner
The average Tesla owner spends less time per year waiting at a charger than a gas car owner spends waiting to pump gas.

Dealerships killed the F-150 Lightning — and it has nothing to do with the truck.
The Lightning is legitimately awesome. Quick, smooth, quiet, practical, and it tows/hauls like a real truck. But the buying experience around it? Terrible.
Here’s why Lightning momentum cooled off (and why a lot of would-be buyers never make it past “interested”):
1) The dealership model is built to extract, not educate
EV buyers show up with real questions: charging, winter range, road trips, home install, adapters, real-world efficiency.
What they often get instead:
“Uh yeah it’s basically the same as a gas truck”
Confidently wrong info
A vibe that you’re annoying for asking details
Or the classic: “We can figure that out after you sign”
2) Markups + games turn excitement into disgust
Nothing makes a customer feel dumber than:
A surprise “market adjustment”
Mandatory add-ons
Finance office nonsense that drags for hours
People don’t leave thinking “EVs are bad.”
They leave thinking “I’m not rewarding this.”
3) Dealers don’t believe in the product, so buyers don’t either
You can feel it. Some dealers treat the Lightning like a compliance unit sitting on the lot—something they have to carry, not something they’re proud to sell.
If the person selling it doesn’t even sound convinced… why would a buyer be?
4) And when the truck has a weird moment, it becomes a headline
My Lightning “failed” in the most confidence-destroying way: 0% displayed SoC and stranded, even though there was still energy left.
That’s not just a “range” story — it’s a trust story.
And dealership weirdness on top of that is how you go from “this thing is incredible” to “I’m out.”
What @Ford should do:
Standardized, transparent pricing
EV-specific sales requirements (actual training, not vibes)
No forced add-ons
Make buying a Lightning feel like buying the future, not buying a used Altima in 2009
Or more boldly? Find a way to go around dealerships completely with a new brand.
Because the Lightning isn’t losing on product.
It’s losing at the point of sale.
If you’ve bought an EV from a legacy OEM… did the dealer help, hurt, or just waste your time? What about buying direct to consumer? (Tesla, Rivian, Lucid)
I have a whole rant in my latest Lightning video here at timestamp 09:58 - lnkd.in/ei56MsFh

Dealerships are the absolute worst and should not exist in 2025
We contacted 100 @Ford dealers nationwide asking for the out-the-door price on the same truck.
Same vehicle.
Same MSRP (within a few hundred dollars).
Same buyer profile.
The only difference was the dealership.
What happened next explains why car buying is broken 🧵👇

Will the last automaker left using CCS in North America turn off the lights on their way out?
NEWS: Stellantis has announced that it is adopting @Tesla's NACS for select Stellantis EVs in North America, Japan and South Korea, giving future access to more than 28,000 Tesla Superchargers across all five countries.
Starting in early 2026 in North America and in 2027 in Japan and South Korea, Stellantis customers will be able to charge compatible BEVs at thousands of Tesla Supercharger locations.
Tesla Supercharger network availability will start in 2026 with existing North American BEVs, such as Jeep Wagoneer S and Dodge Charger Daytona, followed by the 2026 Jeep Recon and other future products.

I’ve been thinking about the Ford presentation all day. I love the folks at Ford and think they are heading in the right direction, it’s a big ship to turn around.
Yet being honest I can’t help but be a little underwhelmed by what they presented.
I’ll give my thoughts below 🧵

It’s unfair how easy our testing is on ADAS - it’s also crazy how fast Tesla is improving compared to the stagnation by every other automaker sold in the western world
We’ve got to come up with new tests

I know everyone has opinions on this but, to me, it’s exciting to see another entrant into driverless taxis!
I have loved my Waymo experiences, looking forward to trying this out.
There’s no way this is less safe than 90% of the uber drivers I’ve had 🤣

I get that @Tesla needs to geofence this initial pilot but isn’t part of the point of pursuing a vision only approach that there wouldn’t be limits on where you could take a Robotaxi. I hope that battery range is the main limiting factor and early users can travel 100+ miles

Credit where credit is due. Even if this robotaxi launch is with 10 cars in a 10 sq mile area, it's still more than I thought they would be able to accomplish this year. Congratz @Tesla!
