I donate my own money to One Nation. That is my business. A political party spending its own funds is not a scandal. Taxpayer money is different. When a government spends public money in ways that sit next to a Prime Minister’s private property interests, that is a scandal - and it deserves more scrutiny than the media is giving it. Anthony Albanese’s government committed about $6 million in taxpayer funds to Marrickville Golf Club. He has a long association with the club, including an honorary membership that was not declared on his register of interests. He still owns an investment property nearby. He sold another property on the same street in 2021. He has dismissed questions about this as a “smear.” Fine. Then answer them properly. Transparency is not optional when public money is involved. A party spending donated money is not the same as a government spending other people’s money. Conflating the two is how the argument gets buried. Stop swallowing the line that asking these questions is the real problem. The real problem is public money, proximity, and a refusal to treat that as a conflict worth explaining.
