Germany’s Merz says South Africa should be at G20 summit in Miami
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called on US President Donald Trump on Wednesday to invite South Africa to the upcoming summit of Group of 20 leaders in Miami.
“Anyone talking about the future of the global economy must involve all major partners. Obviously, Africa belongs at the table,” he told a conference in Berlin.
“The African Union is a member of the G20, and so is South Africa. That’s why I urge that South Africa be represented at the G20 summit,” he said.
Trump announced last year that South Africa would not be invited to the summit after he repeated allegations, which have been repeatedly disproved, that the host country’s Black-majority government persecutes its white minority.

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana has announced R10bn in temporary fuel levy relief. From 4 November to 1 December, the levy falls by R3 a litre on diesel and R1.50 on petrol. A smaller cut then runs until 5 January: R1.50 off diesel and R1 off petrol.

Over one third of this or R13 billion comes from slashing social grants. While these cuts are claimed to be the result of 'reducing fraud ' the evidence is that the cuts are a result of exclusionary qualification processes (declared by the Pretoria High Court to be unlawful and unconstitutional) that excludes vulnerable beneficiaries, who would otherwise be eligible.
These exclusionary measures were first imposed by Treasury on SRD grant beneficiaries and have now been extended to all grant beneficiaries, including children and old people dependent on these grants.
This is not 'targeted and responsible savings'.
It is utterly irresponsible, arbitrary and cruel, and causing untold hardship to millions.

Nigeria has confirmed an imported case of Ebola disease caused by Bundibugyo virus in the Federal Capital Territory, making it the fifth country to detect the virus since the outbreak was declared in the DRC on 15 May 2026.
The patient, a woman with a recent travel history to Uganda, is in isolation and receiving medical care. The authorities have identified 44 contacts, who are being monitored, as contact tracing and investigations continue.
WHO is working closely with Nigeria’s health authorities and partners to support case investigation, contact tracing, infection prevention and control, and the provision of essential supplies to protect health workers and communities.

Mozambican Pres. Samora Machel paid a supreme sacrifice, his country was bombed, obliterated, its territorial integrity violated & his plane crash is still shrouded in mystery, the history of Frontline States is clear, they wanted free SA and Apartheid uprooted. I'm horrified.

Your comments are deeply disturbing.
President Machel died in South Africa coming from a meeting in Lusaka which concerned itself about the liberation of the oppressed people in South Africa and elsewhere. This is deeply revealing of the type of politics you and your party advance. Peace loving South Africans know that the costs of freedom was borne not only by South Africans, the frontline states like Mozambique also paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

Today with my Friend @RonaldLamola the South Minister for International Relations and cooperation co-chaired a third session of the South Africa- Uganda joint commission of cooperation. We emphasized the need to deepen our cooperation through trade, mining, ICT and tourism, and orderly migration. I welcomed the introduction of the extended travel authorization (ETA) which in a short time has enabled travelers to get travel clearance in a short time, as we conclude the processes leading to the signing of an agreement on visa waivers for holders of ordinary passports. Yesterday we marked the 40th anniversary of the Mbuzini tragedy where President Samora Machel and 34 others perished in a plane crash. Mbuzini is a reminder of the devastation once visited upon those who took up the cause of liberation. OR Tambo described Machel as a steadfast companion of all who engage in just struggles. We thank your generation for illuminating a path for us. Khanimambo.

South Africans do not generally think like this and we should all work harder to isolate this madness that masquerades as patriotism.
There are whole suburbs, not just streets that are named after Samora Machel because we understand his contribution to our freedom.
Sies!
