thoughts about last night’s substack party in nyc
> handing out lighters is a sure way for an interesting night
> my color palette is cool winter and I’m supposed to avoid the color orange
> if carbs aren’t dangling precariously off a table then I don’t want them
> kylea r and @HelloMattStarr constantly amaze me
> the gulf between everyday candles and high-end candles cannot be overstated
> chatted with lots of writers (and one of the chefs) and there is nothing more energizing than hearing people talk about what they love

Much of the secret of life consists in knowing how to laugh, and also how to breathe.
What a night
Unexpected parts of the Substack New Media party last night
- Having to announce that the secret service had closed the street down and nobody was allowed in or out for a while
- Cowboys making cannoli
- Breaking up a fight
Grateful to everyone who came, and to the team and experienced security staff who helped ensure everyone was safe. For everyone who couldn’t join, sorry to have missed you and hope to see you soon.

Seeing the Pink Panther main theme performed live is unreal. Henry Mancini conducting, Plas Johnson on sax like the original recording, and the Terry Gibbs Band locking in behind him.
Film music history happening in real time.
