MONDAY’S HOT TAKE: THE SUSSEXES PICK A CAUSE. THE ROYAL PRESS PICKS A FIGHT. Prince Harry and Meghan Sussex are heading to Nottingham this week to support community organizations and causes they’ve backed for years. They’re going as private citizens, not as working royals on a taxpayer-funded royal tour. And here comes the royal press chorus: They’re irrelevant. Strip their titles. They’re cosplaying royals. The King needs to intervene. This is a terrible look for the monarchy. Now some commentators and YouTubers are even suggesting people should boo them. That’s how desperate this shit is getting. If you’re encouraging people to boo a couple showing up to support community organizations, you’re not making a serious argument about the monarchy. You’re trying to turn a charitable visit into a public humiliation. Meghan put her own platform to work on Sunday. One hundred percent of the net proceeds from Sunday’s As Ever jam and tea sales will go to the Malala Fund for girls’ education. That’s a business she built supporting a cause she believes in. No palace campaign had to arrange it. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. asked: “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” That’s the question. Harry and Meghan are showing up for causes they care about, using their platform, and deciding for themselves where their time and resources go. They don’t need the palace to organize it or approve it. The question of publicly funded protection is separate and still unresolved. Nottinghamshire Police will decide whether to deploy resources for the visit. We’ve asked for clarification, but the security details remain private. But look at the pile-on: strip their titles, call them irrelevant, accuse them of cosplaying royals, demand the King step in, and now cheer on the idea of booing them. That’s a lot of outrage aimed at two people doing work on their own terms. The Sussexes are supporting good causes and building their own ventures. That’s what freedom looks like. Maybe the part that really pisses off the royal commentators is that they don’t need the institution to do it.

Incredible scenes as @novaramedia’s Michael Walker questions @YvetteCooperMP over her decision to proscribe direct action group Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation. To date, her policy has led to nearly 4,000 arrests of peaceful protesters under the UK Terrorism Act.

In 2015 David Cameron privatised the National Fostering Agency, it's now being paid £160m a year straight to a New Jersey tax haven to manage the fostering of just 2,616 children A tax free profit of £61,000 per child, and they don't even provide any care, that's the fosters job

Removing the triple lock is a dangerous move - and will harm the poorest pensioners the most. This isn't about old versus young. This is about the super-rich versus the rest. So let's tax wealth to fund social care for all. islingtontribune.co.uk/artic…

A new interview reveals the catastrophically illogical thinking of home secretary Shabana Mahmood. She feels "very uncomfortable" at the arrest of thousands of people under terrorism laws for protesting the criminalisation of direct action against Israel's genocide. But she thinks that's the price that has to be paid to stop direct action against the genocide. Yet she's also terrified of the balaclava-wearing blackshirts who, she says, would kill Muslims like her in an instant. The obvious reality is that the unprecedented powers she and the UK government have accreted to lock away people for what were previously legitimate forms of dissent will be exploited by those same blackshirts (and the political parties that represent them) to crush political opponents. She herself has handed the keys to the fascists so they can disappear their opponents.

I think every Labour MP screaming that the Greens are now a racist, antisemitic party should directly explain why they think Stephen Kapos, a Holocaust survivor and supporter of the motion, is racist.

For those defending this by saying “well she knowingly broke the law”. Yes she did, that IS the ENTIRE point! Once upon a time: Slavery was legal Apartheid was legal Jim Crow laws were legal Colonialism was legal Legality is a matter of power - not justice or morality!
Margaret Owen OBE was arrested in London: “I’m a human rights lawyer, aged 94, but I’m also Jewish. I am absolutely horrified, disgusted, angry, that my government would supporting Israel.” Proud of yourselves Met Police?! Arresting a 94yr old HUMAN RIGHTS LAWYER?!

Hi Tom, NHS consultant here. The NHS is supported by impressive, innovative and ground breaking technologies provided by a wide range of outstanding multinational corporations. It is a false dichotomy to suggest to people that if we want good health care, we must align with genocide supporting organisations like Palantir. Hope that helps. Niz
Later today protesters will demand ‘No Palantir in our NHS’    While they protest, someone, somewhere will get an operation scheduled earlier, a cancer diagnosis quicker, a loved one home from hospital sooner - thanks to the software that those protesters would switch off.   Here is what you won’t hear. Trusts using the software have recorded: • 117,000 additional operations • 14.3 per cent reduction in discharge delays for long stay patients • 5.6 per cent improvement in the number of people receiving a cancer diagnosis within 28 days     As a more articulate person once said: ‘certain facts, although in a sense known to be true, are inadmissible.’

Hello Lord Watson of Palantir. Here are some more "inadmissible facts" you have conveniently ignored. According to NHS England itself, on precisely the figures you quote: “We cannot therefore draw conclusions about cause and effect as other variables have not been controlled for.” NHS England confirmed that these figures do NOT provide causal evidence that your employer's software created the improvements you’re claiming england.nhs.uk/digitaltechno… In July, the statistics regulator warned that NHS England would need to "include clear information about causality" in relation to these figures. Another inadmissible fact osr.statisticsauthority.gov.… When the Health Foundation compared hospitals using Palantir’s discharge tool OPTICA with those that were not, its findings went against your purported figures. They "found no meaningful difference in delayed discharge performance in trusts that have adopted OPTICA compared to those that have not... We found no noticeable improvement in discharge performance among trusts using OPTICA." Worse, they also "found a marked deterioration in performance at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust after the adoption of OPTICA." osr.statisticsauthority.gov.… Days into your new role, and already publishing disinformation.

Andy Burnham is now the new Labour leader, and UK Prime Minister. Now the government consultation is closed, Burnham needs to ensure that Labour's manifesto pledge to ban trail hunting is implemented fully, with no exemptions, excuses or loopholes, and this time they need to do a proper job, and get a shift on.

Helen Whatley MP spends every day bashing disabled people online and calling them scroungers. She has claimed for almost £2,000,000 on expenses since 2015. £300,000 of this are for her own travel and accommodation etc, yet she lives 50 miles from London.

I fully back this call from Labour members. Palantir’s co-founder claimed “the NHS makes people sick”. Serious concerns surround its human rights record. Yet it's running the NHS' data platform. The Government must use the break clause to kick out Palantir.
