Earlier this year, I sued Character.AI for violating our state laws by having their AI companion bots pose as licensed professionals providing medical advice. Filing for bankruptcy doesn’t erase what they did, and I won’t let them use the bankruptcy process to dodge accountability.
And let me be clear: selling the company doesn’t give anyone a clean slate. If a buyer continues operating these chatbots in ways that endanger our kids or violate Pennsylvania law, my Administration will use every tool we have to hold them accountable, too.
