Privacy doesn't mean hiding from everyone. I think that's one of the biggest misunderstandings about privacy in crypto. A company might want to keep its financial transactions confidential, but that doesn't mean it should be able to hide everything from regulators or auditors. And forcing every transaction onto a fully public ledger isn't the perfect solution either. This is something I found interesting while following @primus_labs. At a recent industry discussion, the team emphasized a distinction that deserves more attention: Confidentiality is not the same as anonymity. The idea is simple. Your financial information can remain private from the public while still being available for verification when legitimately required. This concept is often called selective disclosure. Think about a business paying employees onchain. Employees shouldn't have their salaries exposed to the entire internet. But an authorized auditor might still need to verify that the payments were handled correctly. Both requirements should be possible. Of course, implementing this securely is much harder than explaining it. Who controls disclosure? Who gets access? And how do we prevent that access from being abused? Those are the questions I want privacy infrastructure to answer. Because the real challenge isn't choosing between privacy and transparency. It's figuring out how both can exist in the same financial system.
