Inside the Iranian Church: Trust, Media, and the Cost of Faith | Dr. Sara Afshari
In this insightful episode of Unmuted, Edwin Abnous speaks with Dr. Sara Afshari, a leading scholar of Iranian Christianity and media studies. Together, they explore how Christian media shapes the spiritual lives of Iranians, why conversion is often a gradual, relational journey, and how trust is formed within Iranian Christian communities. Dr. Afshari explains the cultural, social, and emotional complexities Iranian seekers face, the high cost many accept when choosing to follow Christ, and how media continues to play a transformative role in this process. She also highlights why Western models of ministry don't always translate well into Iranian contexts, and how genuine partnerships can help nurture a uniquely Iranian expression of Christianity, one rooted in local culture, vulnerability, and contextualized theological education.

What if the Iranian regime's biggest justification for persecution, that Christianity is a "foreign" Western faith, is a complete lie? What if the roots of Christianity in Iran are deeper and more ancient than the regime itself?
