New international consensus on operative and non-operative hip fracture management 🦴 🦴 🦴
We’re delighted to highlight new research from ANZHFR team member Professor Rebecca Mitchell (@HealthDataProf) who has contributed to an international modified-Delphi study developing consensus statements on operative and non-operative management of people with hip fracture.
The study involved hip fracture experts from 17 countries and resulted in 15 consensus statements, with 14 (93%) achieving high consensus. The statements aim to support a more consistent approach to non-operative care and shared decision-making, particularly for older adults approaching end of life.
The authors emphasise that decisions around operative or non-operative management should be individualised to each patient’s circumstances, goals and preferences.
The findings are particularly relevant to the care of older adults approaching end of life, where decisions around operative versus non-operative management can be complex and require careful consideration of the potential benefits, burdens and goals of treatment.
Congratulations to Professor Mitchell and the international expert group on this important contribution to the evolving evidence base around hip fracture care!
