We’ve reached 300. Now, imagine how many more lives we can touch before the year ends. Thank you to every donor, partner, volunteer, and supporter who has helped make this possible. This milestone belongs to you, too.

At Headfort Foundation for Justice, this is what access to justice looks like: showing up for people who might otherwise be left behind. But reaching our target doesn’t mean the need has disappeared. There are still people waiting for legal representation, families hoping for answers, and cases that need urgent intervention.

We set a target to help secure the release of 300 poor and wrongly imprisoned people in 2026. Today, we’re proud to say we’ve reached it before the year is even over. Behind this milestone are people who needed legal support they could not afford. People whose freedom depended on someone stepping in. People who deserved the opportunity to have their cases heard and their rights protected.

Godwin (not his real name) is a magician/illusionist in Nigeria. His work involves creating illusions for audiences, using props that help bring his performances to life. But on 23 March 2026, something he used for his craft landed him in police custody. Godwin was returning from a show when police officers flagged him down and noticed paper dollars among his belongings. The notes, which he had purchased from AliExpress and painted for use in his performances, were props for his magic act.

On 21 April 2026, Headfort Foundation for Justice became involved in Godwin’s case, and our lawyer @BlessingAl13099 immediately stepped in to provide him with free legal representation. One of Godwin’s immediate concerns was the safety of his performance props. They were essential to his work, and he feared what might happen to them while in police custody.

He explained that he was a magician returning from a show, but the officers refused to listen. He was arrested and arraigned the following day on a two-count charge of breach of peace and possession of fake dollars. The court granted him bail in the sum of ₦500,000 with two sureties. Fortunately, he perfected his bail that same day.

Uniforms do not grant immunity from the criminal code!!! @FRSCNigeria we expect the Corps Marshal to recall these officers and do the needful with immediate alacrity.

Even if a driver resists or commits an offense, the legal procedure is impoundment or arrest, NEVER physical assault! The moment a law enforcement officer uses physical violence outside self-defense, they cease to enforce the law, they become criminals in uniform.

Look at the complete collapse of professional protocol in Nasarawa!💔🤦🏻‍♀️ Are these Road safety officers or highway assault squad? The FRSC statutory mandate is clear: manage traffic, issue notices and enforce road compliance. Nowhere in the national road safety corps act does it grant officers the power to turn highway into boxing ring and assault citizen!
Hello @FRSCNigeria, it happened in Nasarawa State, please do the needful. Shameful display of unprofessional conduct.
