We see them everywhere on our streets, so it’s easy to assume electric scooters are legal and harmless. But, in reality:
• Children are at risk of brain damage.
• There are serious legal implications
• They can pose an explosive fire risk

Today I launch my landmark dataset: The Childhood Lottery.📍
Children feel it's harder to grow up in some places than others. Now I've brought together the evidence showing what a child’s experience is like in every postcode.

A lot of suicide prevention messaging focuses on recognising warning signs or asking someone directly about suicide. Both are important.
But there's another question worth asking…if someone was struggling, would they feel safe enough to tell you?
Often, before someone opens up about suicidal thoughts, they're weighing up what might happen if they do. Will they be judged? Dismissed? Told they're overreacting? Or will someone listen, stay calm and try to understand?
Creating that sense of safety doesn't start in a crisis. It grows through everyday conversations, showing compassion, listening without judgement and letting people know they don't have to face difficult feelings alone.
These themes are explored in a thoughtful article by Susan Caso, ‘Making it safe to disclose suicidal thoughts’, which highlights the importance of creating environments where people feel able to talk openly about what they’re experiencing.

You don't need to be an expert to make a difference. Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is help someone feel heard.

For yrs the Family Court's presumption of parental involvement has overridden child safety.
This will change in the Courts & Tribunals Bill which made progress this week.
Thank you @clairethrossell for your tireless work. We won't stop until the Family Court puts victims first.

A sparkler!
Families often see sparklers as a relatively safe way to involve young children in the excitement of fireworks events. But that’s not true. Every year they cause children devastating burn injuries.

We often think the signs of suicide will be obvious, but many people struggling with suicidal thoughts don't show clear outward signs.
Sometimes the only clue is a feeling that someone doesn't seem quite themselves. A simple message such as "I've noticed you've seemed a bit quieter than usual lately. I'm here if you want to talk" can make a real difference.
