Small-cell carcinoma (SCLC)-Lung
Pitfall🛑
Neoplastic cells look smaller in biopsy (1st pic, left) than in resections (1st pic, right). Probably the "size" of the cell is not the definitive criteria...
Clasically, the diagnosis of SCLC is a light-microscopic diagnosis and no need for IHC to confirm, but keratins can be helpful
SCLC: Keratin stains cytoplasm in a dot like pattern/incomplete
NSCLC or LCNEC: Keratin stains cytoplasm in a diffuse and strong pattern

Interesting variants of mucoepidermoid carcinoma. Part 1
- They can be ciliated
- They can have acinar differentiation (it is not acinar cell carcinoma)
- They can be spindled (usually keratin positive)
- They can be oncocytic (these were the old oncocytic carcinomas described in salivary glands which no longer exist)

Spindle cell hemangioma was described years ago as a "hemangioendothelioma", but is benign, often associated with vascular malformations, and occasionally with Maffucci syndrome (enchondromas and hemangiomas), described years ago.
