Terribly tragic news with a body found in Cheshire which is now the eighth person to have died in a water related incident this week. The heat does not change ANY risks of open water swimming. Please be safe in and around water no matter how tempting it is to go in the water.

I urge all parents, schools and anyone else working with children and young people to continue to educate and push the message. Cold water shock, underwater currents, not being able to perceive the depth and debris underneath can all lead to serious incidents like we’ve seen.

Regarding the PE premium - spare a thought to the young sports coaches out there who probably have had a night full of anxiety and uncertainty regarding their job. A position no one should be in with the premium usage, but most definitely will be.

Huge news with PE and sport premium changes as it will be pulled / revamped for next academic year. Can’t say I’m surprised - writing was on the wall for a while. Although not sure this is the right approach… Potentially encouraging news with capital funding however 👍

Even if you’ve shared the message and practiced it tenfold in your swimming lessons (which you should be!!), sharing it one more time before pupils break up for summer could very well just save a life.
