Enjoyed chatting with students at @SHULawCrim about diplomacy, international affairs, and our changing world. Catching up with my friends Ken and Craig was an added bonus.

Linacre Reservoir is a successful Derbyshire example of restoring the natural environment from what was long a site of industry.

The picturesque Derbyshire village of Ashford-in-the-Water has a genteel pace and a really charming quality.

Chatsworth House is spectacular. A magnificent grand building with beautiful artworks and decor. Vast and incredibly well maintained grounds. Truly one of the best places to visit in all of the UK. A Peak District gem.

Some stones. Standing for 4500 years. In perfect alignment with the solstice.

Trams of all kinds at the National Tramway Museum in Critch. Enjoyed riding one from the late 19th century that originally went to one of my old haunts in Abbey Wood.

The Heights of Abraham in Matlock tell the fascinating story of man-made caves from the mining history of this area. Fun to go up in a cable car.

Chesterfield's crooked spire leans about 9 and a half feet. Probably a bit more on a windy day. Quite a lot of steps on the tour to see it up close for myself.

It's been a decent world cup for England. Great effort from the players throughout the games. Good luck to both finalists.

Sensational performance by England. Against a really good Mexico side, at the Azteca, contending with the altitude. Unbelievable spirit.

Had a fun train time at Hady for the miniature railway and at Barrow Hill this past Father's Day weekend. Both excellent in their own ways.

A fun first set of matches in the world cup. Especially with wins for both Scotland and England. There's a long way still to go but looking good so far.

Had fun at the Wingerworth Fun Day today.

Sad to learn of the passing of HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol. I was the UK's lead negotiator at several UN organisations in Vienna at the time HRH was Ambassador of Thailand. Her presence was an absolute highlight. A poised, capable diplomat and advocate. Rest in peace.

Enjoyed visiting the huge 12 acre grounds at Brodsworth Hall near Doncaster. Nice to see the place basking in the warm sun.

Bakewell is always a delight. The Food Festival was a good excuse to pop in to this lovely small town in the Peak District. Bakewell Pudding is better than Bakewell Tart.
