At the end of last year I wrote a book about working from home, from home. If you want to kickstart your career in 2021 but you also don’t want to have to ever get on a commuter train again then you might want to consider a pre-order here: uk.bookshop.org/books/wfh-wo…

'We're not doing brain surgery... we don't need to give it the seriousness we might have given it previously.' Journalist @HarrietMinter tells Vanessa Feltz that it's a 'management problem' if a company isn't able to monitor employees' productivity when working from home.

Take it in. The first female chancellor. The first housing secretary who's actually lived in social housing. The first education secretary who was on free school meals. An energy secretary who actually believes in aggressively fighting climate change. Not a bad afternoon.

This is such a good idea. Find someone who actually knows about the problem to be in charge of it. Why haven’t we done this before???

This spring, an awful ghost appeared to me by night and told me about a copy of Hamlet that is secretly passed down from one great actor to the next. But before I had time to cry, “thrift, Horatio!”, it had disappeared. By then I was sworn. My piece: ft.com/content/21773626-3d2f…

A great summary of how GPT4.o will change our working lives. My key takeaways: people in your business are already hacking their way to an easier working life via AI, do you know about it & how will you manage it? The end of "learning by osmosis" is nigh oneusefulthing.org/p/what-op…

Would you work for a 9-9-6 company? (That's 9am to 9pm, 6 days a week) I loved the deep dive from @thegeneralistco into the culture @Traba_Work a company which is proudly a 9-9-6. I don't think I'd last five minutes but here is what I do love about the way Traba works:

🐣 I wonder how many of their staff will look back at this period in their life and wonder what they lost in terms of developing themselves as people, seeing their family grow up, creating experiences etc. I hope none of them but I'm not sure.

Are you really anxious or do you just not have the vocabulary to discuss your feelings? I loved this @voxmedia piece on why we all think we have anxiety and what we might actually have instead vox.com/even-better/24140293…

In a working environment what this leads to is us believing that we "don't like public speaking" or "get anxious about confrontation" etc, when in fact what we actually need might just be more support, recognition or practice.

As the Vox article points out, we then label ourselves as anxious and see it as something we have no control over / no ability to change. So we limit our own potential and hold ourselves back from growth.
