Not every workplace struggle looks like a mental health issue.
Sometimes, it looks like:
⚠️ Repeated conflict with colleagues
⚠️ Constant complaints
⚠️ Frequent short-term absences
These signs don’t necessarily mean someone is struggling with their mental health but they can be a reason to check in.
As managers and HR professionals, our role isn’t to diagnose. It’s to notice changes, listen without judgment, and make sure people know support is available. 💙
A simple “Are you okay?” can be more powerful than you think.

What happens during a smear test? 🌸
If you’re coming to Harley Street Health Centre for a smear test, we’ll make sure you know exactly what to expect.
Your appointment will begin with a confidential consultation. We’ll ask a few questions about your medical history and, where relevant, your sexual health and any symptoms you may be experiencing. This helps us understand whether you may need any additional tests or care.
We’ll explain the procedure step by step, answer any questions you have and talk you through how you’ll receive your results and what the next steps may be.
For the smear test itself, we use a single-use, lubricated speculum. This is gently inserted into the vagina so that we can see your cervix and collect a small sample of cells.
Your comfort matters. 💗 If you have any questions or concerns about the process, please speak to our team we’re here to support you.

Think you’d know if something was wrong with your prostate? Think again.
Prostate cancer can sometimes develop without obvious symptoms.
That’s why regular checks matter.
A PSA blood test can help assess prostate health, but it isn’t a perfect test on its own. Your doctor may consider it alongside an examination and your personal risk factors.
If you’re 40 or over, with or without a family history of prostate cancer, it’s worth talking to a healthcare professional about getting checked.
And if you’ve noticed changes in urination, don’t ignore them.
Your health. Your check. Your peace of mind.

Drinking less water to avoid frequent trips to the loo? Think again.
For some older men, urinary urgency or frequency often linked to an enlarged prostate can lead to cutting back on fluids.
But dehydration can contribute to urinary infections, brain fog, poor concentration, low blood pressure, dizziness and an increased risk of falls.
Don’t ignore changes in urinary habits. 🩺

Your hormones can change throughout your life and sometimes the symptoms can leave you wondering what’s really going on.
Female hormone screening may be helpful when assessing conditions such as PCOS. For women in their 40s and 50s experiencing significant or unexplained symptoms, it can also provide useful information as part of an assessment for perimenopause or menopause.
✨ Don’t ignore symptoms that are affecting your everyday life.
✨ Ask questions.
✨ Speak to a healthcare professional about whether hormone testing could be appropriate for you.
Your health journey is unique. Understanding it starts with the right conversation.

Vaginal odour? It’s not always about hygiene.
The vagina is a clever organ with its own natural balance of good bacteria, including lactobacilli, which help keep things healthy.
Frequent douching, feminine washes, vaginal sprays and scented wipes can interfere with this natural balance. When beneficial bacteria are depleted, changes in odour can occur.
And remember, not every smell is necessarily coming from the vagina. Urine can have a strong, ammonia-like smell, particularly with incontinence or a urinary tract infection (UTI). Odour can also come from the surrounding area, including the bottom.
💡 The takeaway: your vagina does not need to be ‘cleaned’ with lots of products. In many cases, less really is more.
If you notice a new, persistent or unusual odour, especially alongside discharge, itching, pain or urinary symptoms, speak to a healthcare professional.

🚨Don’t ignore persistent changes in your body.
Ovarian cancer can cause symptoms such as pelvic or lower abdominal pain, an increase in abdominal girth, or needing to urinate more often especially when there’s no infection.
These symptoms can have other causes, but if they’re new or persistent, speak to your GP.
Know the signs. Listen to your body. 💙

Your vagina is not meant to be odourless. 🌸
A natural scent is normal and unique to you. Sweat glands + the normal bacteria on your skin can create an odour, just like underarm body odour.
The key? Know your normal so you can spot a change. 💗

Do you know what your body is really telling you when you're not drinking enough water? Most people think dehydration just means feeling a bit thirsty or getting a headache. But the effects run much deeper than that. It can quietly affect your energy, your concentration, your kidney function, and even your skin, often long before you notice any obvious symptoms. No dramatic warning signs. Just a slow decline you might mistake for something else entirely.
In this clip from the latest episode of The Harley Street Doctor Podcast, host Alya Shakir, CEO of Harley Street Health Centre, is joined by Dr Enam Abood, Founding Director and Head Doctor, to break down what happens to your body when you don't drink enough water, why the effects are often more serious than people realise, and why staying properly hydrated matters more than most of us think.

Most people don't deliberately underestimate their alcohol intake. They simply don't count every drink.
A glass of wine with dinner. Drinks at a networking event. A top-up from the bottle at home. Before long, those drinks can add up to more than you realise.
In this clip from the latest episode of The Harley Street Doctor Podcast, host Alya Shakir, CEO of Harley Street Health Centre, is joined by Michael Imonirhua, CEO of @keysteps12, to discuss why we often underestimate our alcohol consumption, how it can impact our health, and why awareness is the first step towards making healthier choices.
