Every atrocity Israel commits is done with the full confidence that nothing will happen. No sanctions. No consequences. No accountability. Because when empire protects you, morality becomes optional, and human rights become a public relations issue, not a principle.
U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee asserts that Hamas, not the Israeli army, is responsible for civilian deaths in Gaza.

The West calls the murder of 6 million Jews the Holocaust. But the murder of 60 million Native Americans they call the “discovery” of the New World. Disgusting double standards.

One of the stranger parts of being an adult is realizing how many people have never questioned a single belief they inherited. Not even out of curiosity.

Hold that thought for a sec. Hamas offered to release hostages on October 7, by that evening, with no conditions or demands in return. Israel refused According to this report, Netanyahu knew about it as far back as July. Plenty of time to prepare the perfect scenario…i.e. the Nova music festival

In the five years after emancipation, white Southerners burned down hundreds of the schools built for freed people. They did not burn the schools to stop the children. They burned them because the adults were in them at night, learning to read their own contracts. The Freedmen's Bureau and Northern missionary societies set up thousands of schools between 1865 and 1870. Demand was overwhelming — the thing formerly enslaved people asked for first, repeatedly, above land, was schooling. Classes ran in churches, in sheds, in tents, in the open. Adults came after work. There are Bureau reports of men in their seventies learning the alphabet. The response was systematic. Schools were burned by the hundreds across the South. Teachers — Black and white, many of them young women from the North — were beaten, shot at, driven out and in some cases killed. In Memphis in 1866, a white mob destroyed every single Black school and church in the city over three days. In 1870 a teacher in Georgia was murdered in front of her pupils. Congressional hearings on the Klan in 1871 are full of this, witness after witness, county after county. And here is the part that explains why: an educated sharecropper can read the furnishing account at settle-up day. He can read a labour contract before he signs it. He can read a deed and a tax notice and a ballot. The burning was not ignorance. It was precision. Everything that was taken by burning a schoolhouse in 1868 was still being compounded a hundred years later.

In 1993, this photo of Belgian soldiers holding a Somali boy over an open fire shocked the world. The soldiers were in Mogadishu as part of the UN-authorized Operation Restore Hope, supposedly there to protect Somalis and deliver humanitarian assistance. The photograph became evidence in a military prosecution. And what happened next was even more shocking. In June 1997, a Belgian military court acquitted the two soldiers, Claude Baert and Kurt Coelus, of assault, battery and threats. Their defence? They claimed it was merely a “game.” The court accepted that there was insufficient evidence that the boy had suffered bodily harm or that his life had been threatened. The prosecution appealed. In December 1997, the acquittal was confirmed. Imagine being the Somali child in that photograph. Imagine watching the men who held you over a fire walk free because a court decided there was insufficient proof that you had been harmed. This is part of the history that disappears when Western military interventions in Africa are remembered only through the language of “peacekeeping” and “humanitarianism.”

Colonizers have always portrayed resistance as terrorism, savagery, and barbarism. They love to play the victim of the so-called savagery of the colonized and use this perpetual victimhood to justify their genocidal actions.

The last survivor of the transatlantic slave trade was not identified until 2020 , eighty years after she died. She was two years old when she was taken. She lived to 1940. She wore her hair in Yoruba style her entire life, in rural Alabama, where everyone could see it. Matilda McCrear. She came on the Clotilda, the last slave ship to reach America, in 1860 — fifty-two years after the trade had been outlawed, on a bet between rich men. She arrived with her mother and sister. They were separated from the rest almost immediately. She grew up picking cotton. She had fourteen children. She lived with a white German-born man for decades in a state where that was not legally possible, and she refused to take his name. And in 1931, at about seventy-three, she walked into a courthouse in Selma and filed a claim for compensation for having been enslaved. She was refused. It was reported in the local paper as a curiosity. She died in 1940 and was buried in an unmarked grave, and for eighty years nobody knew who she had been — until a researcher in England found the 1931 claim in a newspaper archive and started pulling the thread. She kept her hair the way her mother had done it. For eighty years, on a cotton farm in Alabama, in plain view. That was her whole statement, and it took us until 2020 to read it.

South Carolina passed a law in 1740 banning enslaved people from learning to write, from gathering in groups, from growing their own food, and from earning money. It also banned them from wearing nice clothes. There is a clause in the statute specifying the quality of fabric a Black person was permitted to wear. It is called the Negro Act. It was passed the year after the Stono Rebellion, which we have covered on this page — and every clause in it is a confession about what frightened them. Writing was banned because literate people can forge a pass. Assembly was banned because that is how a rebellion is planned. Growing your own food and earning your own money were banned because a person with savings can buy a horse, a weapon, or a journey. And clothing was banned because the law could not tolerate a Black person looking prosperous. The statute authorised officials to seize and destroy any garment judged above the permitted grade — the coarse stuff that became known as "Negro cloth."
