A MAJOR RELIEF FOR GOVERNMENT JOB ASPIRANTS IN TAMIL NADU! In a significant order, Hon’ble Chief Minister Thiru C. Joseph Vijay has increased the upper age limit for direct recruitment to Tamil Nadu Government jobs by FIVE YEARS, accepting the long-standing demands of competitive examination aspirants. This is particularly significant for thousands of young people who were approaching or had already reached the existing upper age limit and were at risk of losing their opportunity to compete for government jobs. Here are the key details: GROUP I: Upper age limit for the General Category has increased from 32 to 37 years. GROUP II & IIA: General Category upper age limit increased from 30 to 35 years. GROUP IV (Candidates with higher qualifications): No upper age limit, as specified in the existing framework, continues to apply. GROUP IV (Candidates without higher qualifications): The upper age limit for BC, BC(M), MBC & DNC candidates increases from 30 to 35 years. The additional benefit for reserved categories is particularly important: The five-year increase will be over and above the existing age concessions available to: • Backward Classes (BC) • Backward Class Muslims (BC(M)) • Most Backward Classes & Denotified Communities (MBC & DNC) • Scheduled Castes (SC) • Scheduled Tribes (ST) • Destitute Widows Revised age limits – as detailed in the government order: GROUP I: • General Category: 32 → 37 years • Reserved Category: 37 → 42 years • Persons with Disabilities – General: 42 → 47 years • Persons with Disabilities – Reserved: 47 → 52 years GROUP II & IIA: • General Category: 30 → 35 years • Reserved Category: No upper age limit • Persons with Disabilities – General: 40 → 45 years • Persons with Disabilities – Reserved: No upper age limit GROUP IV (Without higher qualifications): • General Category: 30 → 35 years • BC, BC(M), MBC & DNC: 32 → 37 years • SC, ST & Destitute Widows: 35 → 40 years • Persons with Disabilities – General: 40 → 45 years • Persons with Disabilities – Reserved: 42 → 47 years • Existing no-upper-age-limit provisions for specified higher-qualification categories continue. Effective date: 30 October 2026. Duration: The revised age limits will remain in force for FIVE YEARS. This order addresses an important concern among competitive examination aspirants: losing precious opportunities because they crossed the prescribed age limit while preparing for government examinations. Thousands of aspiring candidates across Tamil Nadu stand to benefit from this decision. An opportunity to compete for public employment should not be lost merely because time ran out.
