I look forward to being trained in antisemitism awareness at my university by a programme that hasn’t included Jewish members of staff. Interesting.
'Antisemitism and other forms of hatred thrive where there is ignorance' Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson says universities have a responsibility to educate people about antisemitism and take action against it. trib.al/GMH8aBc #TrevorPhillips 📺 Sky 501 and YT

Greta Thunberg gives her first words after she was released from Israeli prison where she was beat and forced to kiss the Israeli flag. She says the story is not about them, the story is about Gaza.

While the Italian government abandoned the Gaza flotilla, the Italian working class has not. The strike has been called for this Friday, and it follows a similar 24-hour general strike on Sept. 22. The Genoa’s Dockworkers’ Union (CALP) vowed it would “block everything” if anything happened to the flotilla.

With another 9 @ucu branches now calling on UCU to do the right thing we wonder if @drjogrady is listening to her members.

HE is under attack - it’s not alarmist, it’s a fact. Mass redundancies, year on year pay cuts, narrowing of curricula, packing students onto courses, ever increasing workloads... University workers, we need to vote yes.
Universities are under attack. By defending ourselves, we are defending the whole sector. Vote YES. #WeAreTheUniversity

Sometimes solutions are easy @DrJoGrady & @ucu Let’s sit down and talk without conditions or threats that damage everyone. It’s time to resolve this dispute. Our statement, with support from the following branch committees:

Shocking that @ucu are threatening to dock pay just for home working in Unite UCU’s dispute. Our branch @ULivUCU2 is donating £150 + our Admin’s strike pay to their fund, with more to follow. We urge all UCU branches to donate asap to support our UCU staff strikers.
🚨 Third consecutive vote for industrial action 🚨 ✅ strike action: 76% ✅ action short of a strike (ASOS): 80% ✅ turnout: 77% ASOS begins today with @ucu threatening staff: "We'll deduct your wages." Double standards and vindictive attacks undermine us all. #ReclaimUCU

.@Davidlammy suspended trade talks with Israel due to “dark new phase in this conflict”. Suddenly concerned about displacement & starvation he condemned Israel minister Smotrich's “monstrous” call for “cleansing” Gaza But at same time the Gov had a v different take in court!🧵..

“The people of Britain need to know that their country is complicit in this” #KeepTellingofGaza
The British government is complicit in one of the greatest crimes of our time. We will not give up until we have justice for the people of Palestine.

1,300 MAT CEOs, paid average salaries of around £150,000, totals £195 million annually. Before academies there were 153 LA Directors of Education; there still are. This guy's £500k isn't the real scandal, academisation has been - and is - a colossal drain on Education finances.

The Education Secretary is wrong about teaching "grit". 🧵 She's wrong in her perception that anxious children lack grit and she's wrong to think that those with mental health issues lack resilience. It's vital that we challenge this narrative. 1/

A monolingual ideology - a fundamental part of British colonialism and a racist idea at its core - is rearing its ugly head for all to see, all thanks to Labour’s language requirements policies.
English is the main language spoken in 87.6% of households in Pendle.

teaching young children who live in poverty to show ‘grit’ is a classic, individualistic victim-blaming narrative which deflects attention away from structural injustices and pins responsibility on the most marginalised members of our society to undo their own oppression.
'Life has its ups and downs and it's about how we properly equip them to navigate that world' Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson told #BBCBreakfast why children will be taught the value of 'grit' to tackle a growing mental health crisis in schools bbc.co.uk/news/education

Interesting that Starmer has big plans for people to learn English. Where? Who? How? FE colleges have been decimated over the last few years. Where can people go to get cheap or free English lessons, that are near to their homes, taught by experienced, well-trained teachers?

This pathetic appeal to “common sense” is coercive, monolingual nationalism rooted in Britain’s colonial past. “Speak English” has long been weaponised in racist attacks. Language learning should be supported, not policed. This rhetoric is dangerous and deeply irresponsible.
If you want to live in the UK, you should speak English. That’s common sense. So we’re raising English language requirements across every main immigration route.
