Not this time, @nycmarathon… 💔
I was so excited to come back stronger, but a sickness slowed down my training and I’m not where I wanted to be. Sometimes, things just don’t go as planned.
Wishing everyone an amazing race in NYC! 🫂💞

Keely Hodgkinson – the story behind the speed suit 🌪️
From finding inspiration at Faith Kipyegon's Breaking 4 event to debuting the speed suit at Athlos, the Olympic 800m champion spent a year working with Nike on the project 🏃♀️
Jenny Meadows, who coaches Hodgkinson alongside Trevor Painter, and Dan Farron – vice president of apparel innovation product design at Nike – explain how sketches of a speed suit transformed into a statement piece ⚡️
Hodgkinson, who trained in the speed suit in temperatures of up to 37C in South Africa, had intended to debut it at the London Diamond League (before the canal fall) 🇬🇧

Vitamin D supplementation was linked to a 40% lower risk of dementia
In an observational study of more than 12,000 older adults, supplement users were less likely to develop dementia over up to 10 years
At 5 years, an estimated 84% of vitamin D users remained dementia-free compared with 68% of non-users
The association also appeared in people with mild cognitive impairment and, separately, in carriers of APOE4, a major genetic risk factor for Alzheimer's disease

The key feature of low-intensity training (Zone 2 in a 5- or 7-zone model) is that it allows athletes to accumulate a high training volume because it is less stressful than higher-intensity training—not that it is a magic bullet for stimulating specific physiological adaptations.

4 Ways to Get Faster ⬇️
1. Hill Sprints: Hill sprints will help you run in the correct form of acceleration and improve force application with each foot strike.
2. Resisted Sprints: Force application must be highly specific to the mechanics and demands of sprinting. Sled resisted sprints are one of the BEST tools to accomplish this.
3. Dynamic Skips: Improve knee drive, dynamic ankle stability, arm drive, posture, ground contact time, and rhythm - many factors that contribute to fast and explosive athletes.
4. Max-Effort Sprints with Complete Recovery: To run fast you need to do just that, run fast. Sprint intensity should be 95%+ on each sprint if you’re trying to get faster. Additionally, you need to be recovering fully following each sprint! Rest 60 sec. every 10 yards covered.
A high-intensity interval training program was shown to decrease plaque volume in the arteries
They did this workout twice a week:
- 10 min warmup on the treadmill (60-70% of max HR)
- 4 min of running at 85-95% of max HR
- 3 min of running at 60-70%
- repeated for 4 rounds
- ended with a 5 min cooldown
After 6 months, they saw a decrease in percent atheroma volume from 49.5% to 48.3%, whereas it increased by 0.3% in the control group in patients.

VO₂max is quite important. However, it doesn’t tell the whole story…
VO₂max is one of our most powerful markers of cardiorespiratory fitness, integrating the ability of the lungs, heart, circulation and muscles to deliver and use oxygen.
But ultimately, oxygen has to reach the cell and mitochondria, where metabolism and energy production happen.
Exercise profoundly adapts mitochondrial function, oxidative capacity, substrate utilization, metabolic flexibility and lactate metabolism.
I have spent much of my career studying lactate and cellular bioenergetics. Lactate is not a waste product: it is a major fuel and signaling molecule, and its kinetics provide an indirect window into what is happening at the mitochondrial level. Lactate is a great proxy for mitochondrial function.
Also, Increased lactate clearance capacity is associated with greater mitochondrial content and oxidative capacity.
VO₂max and Lactate are complementary, not competing parameters.
