What an incredibly beautiful Bolete found in a very wet part of the New Forest, this week. It could be the relatively uncommon Xerocomellus ripariellus (or perhaps X. cisalpinus). May get a more definitive ID next week. Whatever it is, it’s very lovely. #fungi #NewForest

Our commitment to donate to science-led conservation charities that demonstrate tangible in-the-field results has been steadfast since day one of the Mariposa journey. We donate to them quickly after tours conclude. We know that matters to them, and it certainly matters to us.

Pyrenean Clouded Apollo is one of the most fascinating European butterfly stories of this year. Research has revealed that Pyrenean populations of what was hitherto thought to be simply Clouded Apollo are genetically highly distinct from it.

New tour alert🚨
Yesterday we launched Among the Dragonflies & Damselflies of Sicily for 2027, led by Andrea Corso.
It quickly sold out, so we put on dates for 2028. And that tour filled too!
We're delighted that Andrea can do a second week in 2028:

Another lovely Colias clouded yellow species in my summer of them, this Moorland Clouded Yellow was a thoroughly obliging and decent individual, flying past me in Arctic Sweden and, the moment a cloud obscured the sun, dropping down to roost right in front of us. 💛

Postcard from the field* from Team Mariposa leader Richard - a brilliant fungus find yesterday, one of Britain's most elusive and rarer fungi species.
*a very good field too, judging by this find!
