Nidal Hasan (correct spelling) kept drawing full Army major pay of roughly $7,000 a month from the Nov. 2009 Fort Hood attack until about Sept. 10, 2013—14 days after his death sentence. Total: nearly $300,000. UCMJ rules barred suspending it until conviction.
Victims and families initially got only standard benefits because the attack was labeled “workplace violence,” not combat/terrorism. In 2015, after Congress acted, they received Purple Hearts (or civilian equivalent), hostile-fire pay, and combat-related special compensation. A $750M negligence lawsuit was dismissed.

The Pope is the Vicar of Christ, meaning he’s the representative for Christ on Earth and the spiritual leader of the Catholic Church.
This doesn’t mean you need to agree with everything he says, especially when he’s speaking in a personal capacity on matters not relating to the Church, but when he’s discussing Church doctrine you should listen.
