76% of AI-native leaders say infrastructure limited their ability to ship features in the past year.
Not the model. Not the talent. The plumbing — and the organization around it. This edition's executive stories all hit the same wall from different sides.
1. Infrastructure: 60% of those leaders lose more than a quarter of engineering time to orchestration and infrastructure overhead, and the average AI-native business runs on 4 providers and tools.
One Lambda outage on October 28 lasted 1 hour and 10 minutes and blocked new instance launches.
2. Compliance became the product: Pindrop reports weekly calls from Meta Muse AI agent grew eightfold between September 9 and October 6, while Sierra built a console for disclosures and contact windows, and Harvey routes judgment calls to a lawyer.
In regulated work, proof of compliance at each interaction is the feature.
3. The org chart is being rewritten from the middle out: OpenAI authors lay out three scenarios — AI beneath workers, beside them, or between them as coordinator. n8n now runs more than 12,000 internal workflows and measures success by teams no longer needing its help.
4. The population gap is real: a glaucoma risk signal in East Asians did not colocalize with European traits, while a multiomic score beat SCORE2 for cardiovascular death with an AUC of 0.83 against 0.78 across ancestry groups.
The agent rollout is not a technology deployment. It is an organization redesign with an infrastructure bill attached.
What is the binding constraint in your rollout — infrastructure, compliance, roles, or population coverage?
One economy, two directions — and the split showed up everywhere this week.
Eli Lilly raised full-year revenue guidance by $5.5 billion at the midpoint on the same day Xerox suspended its dividend. The average tells you nothing right now. The dispersion tells you everything.
1. Guidance: Lilly reported Q3 revenue of $24.4 billion, up 39% year over year, and lifted guidance to $91.0-92.0 billion. Sirius XM and IDACORP raised too.
Oshkosh cut adjusted EPS guidance to $8.50-9.50 on fire truck production problems, and Xerox cut operating income guidance to $450-475 million.
2. Rates: the Bank of Canada hiked 25 basis points to 2.5% while the Federal Reserve held at 3.75-4% and Fiji held at 0.25% despite 6.8% inflation. There is no single global direction left to trade on.
3. Expectations: South African Reserve Bank researchers found a sustained 30% fuel price shock keeps inflation expectations elevated for eight quarters — and a 40% oil shock lifts wage expectations immediately while realized wage growth lags behind.
4. Politics is now priced like a market input: the S&P 500 has averaged 14% in the year after a midterm election versus 3% in the midterm year itself.
When every signal splits, positioning on the average is the riskiest trade of all.
Which split changes your 2026 positioning most — guidance, rates, or expectations?
30 unguided agents ran the same dataset and produced 18 incompatible pipelines.
That is this edition's developer story in one line: the model is rarely the bottleneck anymore. The measurement layer is.
1. A scheduling preprint cut latency up to 26.8% and time to first token up to 36.3% — by placing work better, not by buying bigger cards. Baseten's optimized stack transcribes 7x more audio per second than vanilla vLLM at high concurrency.
2. In clinical AI, models caught major errors in trial reports at 53-99%, against 27% for untrained human reviewers — but flagged 2-29% of error types in clean control reports. The benchmark, not the model, decides whether you can trust the output.
3. Agent tooling shifted from judging models to judging work: Qodo flags code that passes tests yet misses the spec, and Patronus found RL alone nearly matched supervised fine-tuning plus RL on GitHub and Unreal tasks.
4. Robot learning got cheaper to judge too — CausGround lifted VirtualHome success from 24.9% to 53.3% without retraining, by reusing causal knowledge instead of paying for rollouts.
The pattern: measure first, ship second. Every team that skipped the measurement step paid for it in rework.
What measurement do you wish you had in place before your last agent rollout?
Governments stopped just regulating AI. Now they're buying it.
Greece's digital ministry signed an MOU with Presight to investigate agentic AI for waste, water, and transport safety.
Scale AI's Doha team is nearly 100 people — and its ALIF program has trained nearly 6,000 government employees.
Google is partnering with Singapore's Ministry of Health on frontier AI, with a new research hub and $7 million in philanthropic funding.
In the US, the ONC is scaling back certification in the HTI-6 rule — and a serious new EHR competitor is expected within one to two years.
Which government will be the most demanding AI customer in 2027?
One hike. Three holds. No single direction.
The Bank of Canada raised its policy interest rate by 25 basis points to 2.5%, with the Bank Rate at 2.75% and the deposit rate at 2.45%.
The Federal Open Market Committee kept the federal funds rate target range unchanged at 3.75-4%.
The Reserve Bank of Fiji held its Policy Rate at 0.25% while annual headline inflation was 6.8% in September 2026.
In Korea, the average rate on new deposits rose 24 basis points to 3.45% and on new loans 17 basis points to 4.57% in September 2026.
Which central bank's next move are you watching closest?
New York just wrote two rules for childhood in the connected home.
Governor Hochul signed two bills on October 28, 2026: one restricting AI companions for minors, one on internet-connected baby monitors.
S9051, assigned Chapter 368, prohibits AI companions from using features considered unsafe for minors.
A5175, assigned Chapter 367, bars sale of an internet-connected baby monitor unless it includes security features to prevent unauthorized access, and requires a written warning label.
New York law also prohibits AI chatbots from discouraging minors from seeking professional mental health help.
Should other states copy New York's approach, or go further?
Buy, sell, or stand pat — one trade deadline, three strategies.
Seattle paid a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick for guard Quenton Nelson.
Nelson has earned Pro Bowl honors in each of his first eight seasons, with three first-team All-Pro selections and three second-team selections.
Indianapolis, sitting at 2-5, traded players on expiring contracts — and does not currently hold a first-round pick for the upcoming April draft.
Before the November 10 deadline, Chris Carter advised Pittsburgh against aggressive deals unless they involve low-round picks.
Which deadline strategy ages best: buying for now, selling for later, or standing pat?
Agents can now build whole products from an empty project. The top score still leaves a third undone.
Replit's ViBench 2.0 spans 17 products, 241 feature requests and 544 test plans. GPT-6.1 Sol leads with a pass@1 of 65%.
Speed changes the math too: Opus 5.5 finishes a build in about 70 minutes on average, roughly 2.5 times faster than GPT-6.1 Sol.
But a preprint found coding agent success fell from 62.7% at the first stage to 28.5% when the whole feature was tested on final code.
And 92 of 98 tested agent skills had no statistically significant effect on performance.
Would you ship a product an agent built from scratch at 65% — or is that a prototype with a nicer name?
AI beneath, beside, or between workers?
OpenAI authors propose three scenarios: AI beneath workers as labor, beside them as colleague, and between them as coordinator.
n8n manages more than 12,000 internal workflows and now measures success by teams no longer needing its direct help.
Jasper says it has more than 900 enterprise customers and its enterprise annual recurring revenue nearly doubled over the past year.
Salesforce podcast guest Stacy Jacobs argues certifications still matter because AI can hallucinate without foundational platform knowledge.
In your org, is AI beneath, beside, or between the team?
AI spending is booming. The economy is not growing to match.
ABN AMRO puts the AI, defence and clean energy capex troika at $3.5 trillion in 2026 across the US, Europe and China — about 4.5% of their combined GDP.
Northern Trust projects hyperscaler AI infrastructure spending reaching $1.2 trillion in 2027 and $1.4 trillion in 2028, even as AI capex growth slows from 54% to 12% by 2028.
J.P. Morgan notes US private investment in computers and peripheral equipment has risen to roughly $365 billion annualised since mid-2023, while net imports of computer hardware have risen sharply to nearly match it.
Meanwhile real US GDP grew at a 2.2% annualised rate in Q2 2026.
If record AI outlays leave headline growth near 2%, where is the payoff actually landing?
$1 billion for GPU primitives.
Flapping Airplanes announced a $1 billion Series A led by Index Ventures to build new GPU primitives.
Formation Bio announced a $600M fund investing in individual drug programs rather than standalone biotech companies.
Emergence reports Casap raised a $56M Series B and resolves 73% of dispute cases autonomously.
The same story reports 93% of multifamily operators have experienced rental fraud.
Which unglamorous cost center is the next to attract this kind of capital?
