Some NPR podcasts started getting mysterious comments on Spotify. They made no sense to the staff reading them – until someone from a younger generation cracked the code. Hear the story: link.podtrac.com/phns92ui

Monthly report on NYC rents is out: Median rent in Manhattan was $5,285 in August, up 7% from a year ago. For studios, the median reached a record $4,186 (as much as a 1-bed cost in 2022). In Brooklyn, median rent reached an all-time high of $4,368. These astronomical rents are driven by a severe lack of supply. The number of available apartments fell to its lowest August level in at least eight years. Let this serve as your regular reminder: NYC desperately needs to pick up the pace of new housing construction.

This is a great win for NYC housing policy. Thanks to all who advocated for the extremely qualified John Mangin
The Council Rules Committee just approved Mamdani's pick of John Mangin to become Board of Standards & Appeals chair, via 6-1 vote (with 2 abstentions). The Council initially signaled it'd block Mangin due to past housing comments, as we first reported: politico.com/newsletters/new…

Austin delivered 81,000 apartments in four years. Now 73% of metro units are offering concessions and avg asking rent has dropped from $1,622 in 2022 to $1,366. Build enough housing and landlords start competing for tenants instead of the other way around!

Great work @NYCMayor! His commitment to government efficiency has been awesome to see
New York's small business owners have said it over and over: endless paperwork and the uncertainty of dealing with City government has made getting their stores up and running too difficult. That’s why we're cutting red tape, eliminating redundant permits (did you know you need a second permit just to serve some ice cream?), and speeding up inspections.

Proud to endorse Alex Bores! @AlexBores is a pro-housing-supply YIMBY. He will be one of few reps in Congress with a CS degree. At a time of strong populist reaction against technology, we should have a leader in Congress who actually understands the tech & its implications.

NEW: Today, our campaign is releasing its first ad of the NY-12 primary. There’s a reason we’re feared by the powerful. I’ve spent my life fighting for progressive values, I’ve taken on Trump and won, and now I’m running for Congress to deliver for New York.

Just a massive change in NYC's power grid this week. Getting almost no attention. A 350-mile transmission line bringing hydro-electric power from Canada to NYC is now live. Will provide enough electricity to power 1 million homes, bringing us to 40% renewable energy sources for the five boroughs. At last making up for the loss of Indian Point nuclear power plant, which used to provide 20% of our power. The Champlain Hudson Power Express took more than 12 years to build. It was a tough political fight. Now we need to win many more fights like this.

Lots of good vibes coming recently from Hochul and Mamdani, from SEQRA reform to Zohran's housing plan to this announcement
This morning we are introducing COGE — the Commission on Government Efficiency.

This Commission will find ways for our city to work smarter, faster, and more effectively for working people.

New Yorkers deserve a city government as careful with their money as they are.

Starting today, a 500 unit building in NYC: - can be approved in six months rather than two years or longer - will cost over $40 million less to build Total abundance victory.
For generations, NIMBY politics stood in the way of building the housing New Yorkers need.

Today, that era comes to an end.

From now on, when communities say yes to housing, New York will LET THEM BUILD.

Amazing
MTG sacrificed her political career to stand against genocide, against Trump, against the Epstein Class, and to defend the survivors of Epstein’s trafficking. If that doesn’t earn credibility I don’t know what possibly could.

It's time for build housing
SEQRA reform is in! I'm hearing it’s basically clean. No 'everything bagel' fine print. Similar requirements on previously disturbed land to the earlier Senate draft. We will see when final text comes but very exciting!!

They say these things because they are rich, no middle class or poor person thinks stealing at Whole Foods is worth the risk. We are afraid of law enforcement, our immigration statuses etc. In America, this kind of klepto behavior is the wheelhouse of the wealthy.
These people are much richer than I am and I think I'm too rich to say this shit lol
