Her name is Hafsat, she lived with her mom, and her stepdad, who’s, from what I’ve known so far, is a very complicated and difficult person.
He normally beats her, not only her, his own children too, and the funny thing is they all not kids, for Hafsat, she’s 28yrs, for the rest, one is even 30+. He’s a kind of father that doesn’t play with his kids at all, doesn’t talk to neighbors or anyone, he’s very very tough, even on Hafsat’s mother, his only wife.
One day, Hafsat did something to him and he started beating her, I think that happened during the day, and even later at night, he decided to beat her again, which led to her running outside the house, he locked the door and said she’d not come back to his house again. Fortunately/unfortunately for Hafsat, there’s this Yoruba guy in their area who lives alone, who had always liked her, he saw her and wanted to help, but didn’t take her to his place since they’re Muslims and she’s not his Muharamma, there and then, he said, he can marry her, which the people there agreed, and Hafsat, who didn’t have any option but to agree because that was her last resort, agreed.
They got married at the middle of the night and he took her in.
Things were rough for them, very, he didn’t have what it takes to hold a wife, but since he’s a hustler and goes for iron work, he eventually got things for them, bed, tv, and other necessities.
As for her stepfather, he said he has disowned, and didn’t even allow the mom to go see her.
As time goes by, Hafsat became pregnant, the husband, went to Lagos for some work as he said when the pregnancy was 4months old, since then, he doesn’t call, nor text. She was the one calling and telling him about her situation. The food he left her with finished, and anytime she calls to tell him, it’s from one story to another. Things become very bad due to her pregnancy, she had to go beg her mom, to beg her stepdad to please allow her to come back home, which he agreed but only under the condition of her not eating the food in the house, or using anything that belongs to him, he said the only thing he’d allow her in the house is to sleep, but even charging her phone, she must pay for it, and that what was happened.
Her mom doesn’t do anything, she’s a full housewife, the type that are at the mercy of her husband. She had to be giving Hafsat her food, then starve sometimes, or share into two for them, without the father knowing.
Time went by, Hafsat was due to give birth, her husband was nowhere to be found, he didn’t come back and even when the mom reached out to him, he shouted at her.
They had to borrow some money from her uncle to take her to the hospital. The birth came with so much complications, she spent almost a week in the hospital, the bills stacked up and they couldn’t pay, her friend, Fatima who was Hafsat’s mate in some school in Abuja reached out to me, we stepped in and paid for everything.
After returning home, the stepdad said, nothing from his house should be used in taking care of Hafsat or her baby, not even his buckets or gas or to boil hot water. They had to find gas to do all of that. I sent them money for foodstuff and the baby’s necessities.
Again, time went by, the husband decided to come home, after so many pleas from me. Her mom, didn’t want to talk to him or see him. Her stepdad, he said the husband shouldn’t dare to come to his house. Hafsat was so confused and didn’t know what to do. The husband later came, apologized and pleaded, the step father said he’d give him Hafsat back but only if his family comes or he brings someone from his workplace.
He did, and the stepdad allowed Hafsat to go, with the condition that she’d not come back to his house.

NIGERIA CUSTOMS REVIEWS RECRUITMENT COMPLAINTS, OPENS DOOR FOR ENGAGEMENT WITH AGGRIEVED APPLICANTS
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) acknowledges complaints from some applicants who participated in the recent recruitment exercise. These candidates were among those screened out and subsequently not allowed to proceed to the training college despite appearing on the recruitment shortlist. The Service recognises the concerns raised by affected applicants and assures the public that the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, after meeting with some of the aggrieved applicants, has called for a case-by-case reappraisal to ensure legitimate complaints are heard.
However, the Service wishes to clarify that inclusion in the final shortlist does not automatically guarantee enlistment into the Service. Recruitment into the NCS involves multiple stages of verification, including credential and document checks, physical and endurance assessments, medical examinations and age verification, drug screening and other mandatory requirements. During the screening exercise, issues relating to substance abuse (cigarettes and alcohol exclusive), physical fitness, medical records, age and submitted documentation were identified among 397 applicants. Some candidates were also rejected due to identified irregularities in their selection process during the screening exercise. These findings underscore the Service's commitment to upholding established recruitment standards and ensuring that only candidates who satisfy all prescribed requirements are considered for enlistment into the Service.
To provide an avenue for addressing genuine concerns, the Service thereby urges all candidates who feel aggrieved by the outcome of the screening exercise to formally forward their details and complaints to [email protected].
Affected applicants are advised to provide accurate information to facilitate the examination of their cases. The initiative is intended to ensure that legitimate concerns receive appropriate attention while preserving the integrity, fairness and credibility of the recruitment process.
Aggrieved candidates who wish to take advantage of the new window will be subjected to fresh screening. Where investigations establish criminal conduct, including certificate fraud or other offenses, the individuals involved will be referred for appropriate legal action and prosecution. The review of complaints will not constitute a waiver of established standards or an automatic guarantee of admission into training.
The Service urges applicants and the general public to remain calm and utilise the designated channel for the submission of complaints, while assuring all concerned that the review will be guided by established procedures and the need to uphold the integrity of the Service. The NCS, under the leadership of CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR and its management members, reaffirms its commitment to a credible, transparent and accountable recruitment process. While the Service remains open to genuine complaints from affected applicants, it will not compromise the standards required of personnel entrusted with national security, border protection, revenue collection and public safety responsibilities.
