Trickle down is a lie and deregulating the financial system won't help people.
It's always fun to share home truths on the news.
"The chancellor mentioned several measures yesterday to deregulate the financial sector... deregulation is not going to lead to the sort of growth that will benefit ordinary people... trickle down just doesn't work"

Working class people have paid the price for the bankers' crash in 2008.
It's time to tax the rich and invest in public services.
Anything less would be a big mistake.

Jackdaw will be exploited by a private company and its oil/gas will be sold on the open market. It will be 'supplied to British homes' only in the sense that we buy in those markets, like everyone else. Labour's very careful choice of words here is designed to midlead you.
Replying to @UKLabour
Gas produced at Jackdaw is expected to be supplied to British homes and businesses from the end of this month - increasing domestic gas production by around 6% at its peak.
Labour will also invest North Sea revenues in renewables and other low-carbon projects.

I wrote to the Government with cross-party MPs last night opposing this decision.
Rosebank and Jackdaw won’t cut bills they'll just boost profits of fossil fuel giants.
If every country pursues its own deluded self interest the costs of climate breakdown will be unbearable.
Energy Secretary @Miatsf has agreed that the regulator can grant consent for gas to be produced at the licensed Jackdaw field.
Gas from Jackdaw is expected to start reaching British homes and businesses as early as the end of this month.
This Budget is a tug of war over Chancellor John Healey between big banks 💰 & ordinary people 🪧

The Guardian view on the banks: too big to fail cannot mean too big to tax theguardian.com/commentisfre… "The chancellor could be more radical. The precedent here is not a socialist one. Thatcher taxed banks’ windfalls in 1981. A comparable levy today would raise more than £11bn"

Banks are pocketing billions in extra profits from the same interest rate hikes hammering households.
I'm presenting a petition in Parliament ahead of the Budget for a windfall tax on banks to fund cost-of-living action.

Sounds great, until you realise this is the least progressive option for taxing the banks more, the Postive Money recommendation for instance could raise over £12.5bn, where is this just takes us back to what we had with the Tories and an extra £2bn annually. If this is the best we’ve got to look forward to in the budget then Burnham’s rhetoric around neoliberalism is just that theguardian.com/uk-news/2026…
