I have been in the fandom for a very long time. Nearly 2 decades, to be exact. I have never felt so unwelcome within a space than I was, merely moments ago.
My sister, Bozzie and I have had pain issues in our feet lately (same foot and everything. Twins share everything 😅) So, we headed to the hot tub within the water park of the resort we’re staying at.
The hot tub was quite full, but with a couple open spots here and there, and one spot with plenty of room for the both of us.
We sat down, and I closed my eyes and tried to relax.
All of a sudden, a man came over and Quite LITTERALLY Sat on Bozzie!!! Like, no “excuse me” or nothing.
I’d like to note: the hot tub was full of male/male presenting people. Bozzie and I were the only 2 women in the hot tub. I hate to assume what I fear he was trying to do. But, it was so blatantly obvious that we were not wanted there.
He and his group stood up and moved once another group left. And Bozzie and I got up and left.
I’m frustrated. I feel icky…..I wish I would have said something, but I don’t know if it would have made it better, worse, or dangerous for us.
I love the fandom. I love meeting new people, and making new friends. Regardless of Gender, race, etc. It makes me so sad to know that Misogyny is ABSOLUTELY prominent within the fandom I’ve dedicated much of my life to.
Everyone has preferences. But YOU. DO. NOT. TREAT. ANYONE. AS. IF. THEY. ARE. BENEATH. YOU!!!
Women are here as much as any other gender!!!!
