It appears that after our debate, Haqiqatjou is still spreading lies to push his agenda of harming little girls through child marriage. I debunked this nonsense in our debate on child marriage, yet he is still lying to audiences. First, there is no reason to think Roman girls were marrying on average around 12 or 13. Brent Shaw and Keith Hopkins note Roman girls were on average marrying in their late teens to early 20s. jstor.org/stable/2173291 jstor.org/stable/178753 After the debate, Haqiqatjou attempted to refute this by citing Walter Scheidel's paper, "Roman Funerary Commemoration and the Age at First Marriage." But Haqiqatjou didn't read the full paper. Scheidel concluded it is still more likely Roman girls were marrying in their late teens. Second, there isn't a scrap of evidence to conclude a 9-year-old is mature enough for sex. Research shows children are not mentally ready for sex or marriage: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/article… pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3151… pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/2343… Research also shows girls are not physically ready for sex of childbearing: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/2214… pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/1569… There is no medical or psychological reason to think a girl as young as 12 or 13 (let alone 9) would be ready for marriage. The mere onset of puberty does mean a girl is ready for sex, and anyone who says otherwise is either ignorant or a child predator. Third, Haqiqatjou always talks in extremes. According to him, if you reject child marriage, that means girls will be fornicating at age 8 with their teachers or other girls. This is pure nonsense and a false dichotomy. There is no reason to think that if we reject the abhorrent practice of child marriage we are promoting teenage promiscuity. No research supports this extreme conclusion. To try to make child marriage look acceptable, Haqiqatjou has to make the rejection of it look worse. So he claims necessarily the rejection of child marriage will lead to rampant sexual promiscuity. As I said before, we do not stop evil with evil. Child marriage leads to psychological damage (as well as physical harm) in young girls. We can build a society that allows girls to become adults before they are married and discourage fornication as well. But the damage from child marriage has been shown to be far greater than a teen girl making a mistake. We can reject both extremes and try to build a better world, instead of adopting the ethics of 7th century Arabia, promoted by Haqiqatjou. If, according to Haqiqatjou, a necessary component of Islam is child marriage then it is not a solution to anything. It is a backward ideology that promotes the abuse and rape of young girls.
