Economist @mattsclancy joined host @HalderAlaka to discuss "The Atlas of Innovation", a framework mapping how funding mechanisms shape technological progress. He explains how they built a structured guide to help funders navigate R&D choices, evaluate when to rely on AI or existing literature, and match the right financing tools to specific goals.

How are you all working magic with your Instinct agents? Mine has been useless at simple tasks. It's strictly worse than I am at finding running shoes and rain jackets, even when I give it the exact product name, brand, size, and colors I want.

It misses common retailers, forgets to include links, gives me sketchy checkout pages instead of product pages. I tried it for a restaurant reservation in NYC. It got the slot drop times wrong. Maybe my needs are too basic. Deleted my account as it needs too much babysitting.

Economist @mattsclancy, program director of the Abundance & Growth Fund at Coefficient Giving, joined host @HalderAlaka to discuss "The Atlas of Innovation", a new tool that helps funders choose how to pay for the innovations they want. Grants, prizes, advance market commitments, funders have a lot of ways to back innovation, but they rarely have a clean way to compare them. We sat down to look at a new project mapping out thirteen different funding mechanisms and their exact tradeoffs.

The way you fund an idea can determine which ideas ever get a chance to exist. Economist @mattsclancy joins host @HalderAlaka to talk about the "Atlas of Innovation", a framework for thinking beyond the default ways we fund research and asking a more interesting question: what kind of funding produces the kind of innovation we actually want? Come for the economics of innovation, stay for the surprisingly consequential question of how we choose to pay for the future. interintellect.com/salons/ma…

On evenings like this, I really love this city.
August in Austin, my tenth year here, the longest I've lived anywhere in an unbroken stretch.

Design researcher and author @paminthelab joined host @HalderAlaka for a SuperSalon conversation about how our online lives can enrich, rather than destroy, human connections and to rethink what emotional well-being looks like. We've all heard that too much screen time is bad for our well-being, that we should put down our phones and "touch grass." But many of us spend most of our life online, whether for work, school, or to socialize. In her book, "All the Feels", Pamela explores how being online shapes our emotions, showing that the internet allows us to be more emotionally expressive in a way that benefits our mental health and helps us connect deeply with others. Blending research, cultural observation, and personal stories, she maps the emotional terrain of digital life. Instead of telling us to log off, she asks how we can remain empathetic, curious, and human in a world that never powers off.

On a recent @interintellect_ Salon, @HalderAlaka asked me about how the elderly are targeted by scammers, and also, by family members. Beware and protect your olds, including from people they may love and trust.
