A Gen Z joined the team.
Week one.
During onboarding, the manager said,
“We sometimes stay late during peak periods.”
Gen Z nodded.
Then asked,
“Is that paid… or just expected?”
The room went quiet.
- No attitude.
- No rebellion.
- Just a question.
Later that day, HR mentioned “growth opportunities.”
Gen Z replied,
“Does growth include raises, or just more responsibility?”
Again, silence.
- No laziness.
- No entitlement.
- Just clarity.
That’s when the team realized something.
When people say
“Gen Z is lazy,”
what they really mean is:
Gen Z watched old generation
- skip meals,
- miss birthdays,
- work weekends,
- and burn out
only to be told
“budgets are tight”
and “be grateful you have a job.”
So Gen Z chose differently.
- They don’t romanticize overwork.
- They don’t confuse suffering with ambition.
- They don’t trade health for praise.
They still work hard.
They just refuse to work for nothing.
It’s not laziness.
It’s pattern recognition.
And honestly,
after everything old generation went through…
Can you really blame them?

There is an island in Lekki called "Tekunle." There is a rehabilitation center on that island. The place was once a prison but is now a rehabilitation center for drug addicts.
I followed a wealthy man to the site some years ago to check on one of their sons who, unfortunately, became a drug addict while in school at a private university. They usually have an open day where parents can come and check on their kids. They also typically engage the residents in skill acquisition programs to aid their rehabilitation.
The boy we went to see learned how to cut hair, so when we arrived, his dad told him to cut his hair to see how much he had learned. After the haircut, he grabbed a bottle of methylated spirits and applied it to his dad's head. Jokingly, his dad said, "This spirit is just like water, it doesn't smell or feel like spirit," and then the boy burst into laughter. He later told us that some of the other children in the center used to drink the spirit, and they would dilute it with water.
You can't get to that island by car, it is accessible by ferry or helicopter so where we parked at Lekki, I saw other parents parking their cars and I know that those children are not from poor homes. Many people can't visit their children because of their status in the society so they sent representatives.
The drug issue is now a pandemic in Nigeria!
Nigeria has a drug problem
Yes, A hard drug problem. Used to be that Nigeria was a transit route for South American cocaine, now the local usage is up
It's a productivity killer

We are not even noticing how fast our society is dying. In this generation,
Toxicity has been replaced with being oneself.
Terrible attitude to life is blamed on Zodiac traits. No desire to work on oneself.
Being entitled is now being woke.
You talk too much and you say it is being confident.
You are very fat and badly shaped but you dress almost NAKED, rub in people’s face unprovoked and call it confidence in your skin.
Arrogance is called having self worth.
Greed is being ambitious.
Crime is now called hustle.
Cheating your fellow human being is now called Street Smart.
Laziness and Indolence is now called protecting your peace.
Skin bleaching is now called skin care.
Avoiding accountability and responsibility is now called protecting your mental health.
Being inconsiderate and a total nuisance to the environment is now called being misunderstood.
Being unforgiving is now called setting boundaries.
Ingratitude replaced by knowing your worth.
Living recklessly is called living your best life.
Being selfish is now called self love.
Irresponsibility and lack of financial planning is now excused with “The future will take care of itself”.
Being rude, insultive and abusive is now called being real.
Correction is being envious and judgmental.
We are basically a fast dying species who pride ourselves in advancing in civilization, living in modern age and leaving the 50s behind.

One of the area boys I give money to regularly, stopped me...
Since it's festive period, I thought he wanted to demand more.
I rolled down the passenger's windows, and he said:
"It's my turn to dash you money today"
Handed me this parcel of N5.
I was happy.
And...
It took me over 3 hours before I realized he gave me only N 500.
Even after realising ...
I still appreciated it, because it came in a special packaging.
Doesn't matter how small...
Gift people this season.

I boarded a flight from Amsterdam to Lagos. When I got to my seat an elderly woman was sitting there. I told her politely that she was sitting on my seat. She didn't move and didn't say a word. I called on one of the crew to please ask her to move to her seat.
The crew member asked for her ticket. She said she couldn't speak English but Yoruba. Some other passengers then told her in Yoruba to bring out her boarding pass. She did and it showed it wasn't her seat. It was mine. The woman still refused to leave saying that her allocated seat was between two men and she doesn't want to be between two men.
I told the crew member that I paid for the seat for my comfort and I need to have the seat. He pleaded with me to take the seat beside her and during the flight he will look for another seat for me. For the sake of peace and given the age of the woman, I agreed.
When the flight took off, the woman was now talking to me in Yoruba, saying "shebi Omo Yoruba ni e"....suggesting that I shouldn't have insisted on claiming the seat I paid for because we share same ethnicity. I told her in Yoruba, that the only reason I did so was because of her age not ethnicity.
As luck will have it, I hit it off with the white guy sitting beside me. He was travelling to Lagos to get married to his Nigerian Fiancée. So we talked, culture shock, business and entertainment. The woman kept looking at us and at one point interjected in perfect ENGLISH something along the lines of "So, you can be this friendly and you were stressing me to leave my seat".
Imagine my shock. Not only me, the women in the adjourning seats who had joined to plead with me to let it go. I asked her now very loudly "SO YOU CAN SPEAK ENGLISH....AND YOU WERE PRETENDING THAT YOU CAN ONLY SPEAK YORUBA?" I told her in Yoruba "Mummy oni oruko till Yoruba ma'npe ewa beyen...sugbon nitoripe mo je omooluwabi, I will restrain from saying it".
Throughout the flight, she kept trying to make conversations with me, asking me where I am from, telling me what she went to do abroad. I wasn't interested. The dishonesty was too much for me to overlook.
There is something about us that permits bad behaviour. It is regardless of age or ethnicity, status of even religion. We are simply accepting of bad behaviour and willing to rationalize it for the most silly reasons.

All the travellers did was to ask for directions cos they weren't familiar with the road, just ask for directions, which isn't a crime or be a burden to those being asked, but they were perceived as a threat by a mob (reportedly) for no justifiable reason. Wedding travellers attacked, 12 brutally k'lled, others hospitalized. This is not and will never be OK, people were k'lled but some are trying to address the situation like it's no big deal. We have a big problem in this country.

So, something is has been happening at @gtbank for a while now and people have not been able to talk about it, surprisingly, despite experiencing it.
There seems to be an ongoing fraud there, ripping people off their monies.
1. Your account could read ZERO balance and from nowhere, you see a MINUS N400k balance in your account as if you took a loan and the loan was due. You don't have access any money paid to you.
2. Any money that hits your account gets deducted because of the "debt" that was placed on your account magically.
3. If that is your salary account, when your salary gets paid and it hits your account, it disappears or the amount you "owe" is deducted and you are given your change.
4. You complain at customer care. They run diagnostics and find that on your last salary payment before the present one "you were paid twice" but you didn't see any alert and your account always read zero until the sudden magic. So if you do not check your account regularly, you won't know when they hit you with a minus.
5. They tell you to sort it out with your employers that a LIEN was placed on your account. You contact your employers and it is not from them as they paid ONCE. But your bank said you were paid twice.
6. You check your bank statement and it shows that you were paid by your bank (same salary amount) but it never hit your account but is it reading negative. So you "owe" them.
7. You get tossed up and down tillyou get tired. Your money GONE. Untraceable.
1 to 7 above is my story today and that of many other people i know hut who don't have a voice to call them out. Please call out this bank. Don't ignore this tweet. Don't scroll past.
It is us today, if you use GTB, it will sure get to you. Changing salary account could be done but as at now, we need to be saved from this mess. This is scam and this is unfair.
If you have a GTB account, it is advised that you take all your money out and close your account with them. A lot is happening there as at now.
Please RT, tag them and comment. Don't ignore. Please.
