Hadeel Arja writes: There are no official statistics on children killed by family members in Syria. Yet several documented cases reveal warning signs that, had they been taken seriously, might have saved some of these children's lives. These killings were preceded by indications of danger: a complaint, an injury, an intervention by a relative, or a custody decision.
The question is not simply who killed these children, but what happened after the first warning signs emerged.
Over the past few days, we spoke with people close to Jannat, Lujain, and Kinan to understand what happened to them and whether there were opportunities to intervene before the violence turned fatal.

In Bern, Switzerland, during the True Story Festival, I had the opportunity to present our investigation into Syria's missing children.
For the past months, I have been investigating one of Syria's most painful and complex files one that exposes a systematic pattern of enforced disappearance, identity erasure, and family separation.

ERASED PAST.. Inside Syria’s Missing Children Files
After more than a year of research, investigation, and gathering documents and testimonies, we publish today our new investigative report that uncovers a side of one of the most complex files in Syria.
The investigation documents how children were separated from their families during the years of the Assad regime, and how some of them had their identities and lineages altered through administrative and legal channels, under a web of procedures and documents that contributed to erasing their true identity.
You can read the full investigation and watch the documentary film via the link in our bio, or through our platforms on YouTube.

In this investigative report by the Tiny Hand Foundation, journalists Hadeel Arja and Khalil Ashawi trace how children with known identities were assigned new identities and family lineages after their parents were detained or they were separated from their families. The investigation reveals a network of security and social institutions that enabled this system under the Assad regime.

Very proud of hosting “Under the Same Sky” VR documentary at ARIJ 2024 forum.
After the first screening of "Under the Same Sky", we interviewed participants who experienced the film through virtual reality headsets. The film by @FrontlineInFocu immerses viewers in #Gaza, letting them live through the daily lives and challenges of the people there.
This feedback is from some participants at @ARIJNetwork conference, where we had the opportunity to showcase the 38-minute VR documentary that takes you to #Gaza and makes you question whether we all truly live under the same sky.
