Autumn has two official beginnings. Meteorological autumn starts on 1 September, while astronomical autumn arrives with the equinox later in the month.
But seasons are often felt before they are marked on a calendar. A shift in the light, the return of a favourite layer, or an evening that makes you want to stay outside a little longer.
There’s always more to notice. Find stories of culture, lifestyle and everyday life, seen in a new light in Hadara Magazine.

Tiny watermelons, green mangoes and a chat with the vendors. Come along?
We’re wandering through Souk Al Jubail with Moza Almatrooshi, discovering what’s in season, where it grows and what might end up on her next menu. She comes without a shopping list, leaving room for something unexpected and there’s plenty to tempt us.
Of course, there’s time for a bun dipped in karak before we leave.
Discover more about Moza Almatrooshi in Hadara’s 14th edition.

Every olive carries a story, and every harvest keeps a memory alive.
In Temoula, the olive harvest fills the groves with more than the work of the season. Artists and families gather among the trees, sharing a tradition renewed with each generation.

The studio is only one part of an artist’s creative world. The process also unfolds in the places where they observe, wander, remember and encounter the unfamiliar.
These environments offer more than subject matter. They can shape the way an artist thinks and sees. Natural surroundings can restore attention, while encounters with different cultures can challenge familiar ways of thinking and spark unexpected connections. A place can ultimately become part of the artwork by changing the way the artist sees, interprets and creates.
A chair can tell you more than you might expect.
Across art and history, it has taken on many roles, from marking power and status to becoming part of the scenes and routines of ordinary life.
Then there is the Monobloc, a chair so familiar that most of us have probably sat on one without giving it much thought.
For Chafic Mekawi, that familiar chair became a way to return to something closer to home. By covering it in zellige, he gives the Monobloc a new identity, shaped by memory, craft, and the places we carry with us.
From Arctic ice to the forests beneath our oceans, photography can do more than document the world. It can reveal what is changing, what is at risk and what deserves a closer look.
In Issue 14 of Hadara Magazine, discover a selection of powerful works from the 10th Xposure International Photography Festival, where photographers from around the world examine climate, migration and conservation, while bringing the people and stories behind these issues into focus.

She is part of the fabric of her nation.
She carries something of every woman who came before her, from those who built and cared, to those who led, achieved and dared to do things differently.
Like a knight, she moves with purpose. Not only for herself, but for the people beside her and the generations that will follow.
The strength of Emirati women has never belonged to one story. It lives in thousands of stories, passed from one generation to the next, each adding something of its own.
On Emirati Women’s Day, we celebrate the women whose courage, work and ambition continue to define the UAE’s story.
Whispers of Truth begins with something almost invisible: a thought.
In his first public sculpture, Emirati artist Juma Alhaj brings together chaos, balance and seemingly random forms to explore the space between thought and understanding.
Drawing on the form of quotation marks and the desert’s constantly shifting landscape, the sculpture considers how time, memory, and experience gradually shape the way we see ourselves and the world around us.
Discover the story behind Whispers of Truth in Hadara Magazine, Issue 14.

Some histories are written. Others survive in photographs.
Long before photography became part of everyday life, Arab women were already using the camera to document the people, places and moments around them, preserving scenes that might otherwise have been lost to time.
On World Photography Day, we look back at the women who understood early on what an image could hold, capturing moments that might have disappeared, but instead became a defining part of our collective memory.
The historic Tashkent tram depot once powered the city's streets, but today, it powers something else: imagination.
Here, Antonio Vivaldi's Summer fills the space alongside the roar of the sea, the rumble of thunder, and the call of seagulls, where music and memory dissolve into an imagined landscape.
Between the pages of Hadara and the horizon beyond, the sea becomes the storyteller of a tale still unfolding.
Discover "Power the Imagination" in the 14th edition of Hadara, and explore more stories of art, design, and visual storytelling.

A city does not always need to build from nothing. Sometimes, it listens to what is already there.
In Tashkent, a former tram depot has been reimagined as a centre for contemporary art, proving that memory can be more than something preserved. It can become a force for what comes next. Read the full feature in Issue 14 of Hadara Magazine.
Chess has never been only about winning. It is a dialogue between intention and consequence, patience and possibility. Every move asks: What do we protect? What are we willing to sacrifice? When do we wait, and when do we leap? But perhaps the greatest illusion is that we are only moving the pieces. With every choice, the board rearranges us in return. We learn that certainty is fleeting, that every ending becomes the beginning of another game, and that wisdom is not found in never making the wrong move, but in finding the courage to make the next one.
The board is never quite the same twice and neither are we.
We often think of football shirts as branding exercises. But the best ones behave more like cultural artifacts. They carry literature, architecture, language, memory, and craftsmanship into a place where millions of people are already looking. For ninety minutes, a shirt becomes more than something a nation wears.
Perhaps that is what good design has always done. It gives culture another place to live.
Made from dried flowers, seeds, leaves, and grass, Anusheh Zia’s prayer rugs are designed to change with time. They slowly fade and return to the earth, turning impermanence into part of the work and nature into an active collaborator. Discover the full story in Issue 14 of Hadara Magazine.
For more than two decades, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has explored love and loss, belonging and displacement, identity and memory. But beneath every story lies a deeper question: how can fiction help us understand the truths that often escape us?
Following a twelve-year return to the novel, Dream Count is shaped by grief, reflection, and renewal. For Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, writing is more than an act of creation; it is a way of making sense of what remains when certainty begins to fade.

Inside her studio… the place she returns to, doubts in, experiments in, starts over in… Emirati artist Almaha Jaralla speaks about rejecting color, walking away from what feels comfortable, and the strange belief that making art isn't about solving problems, but creating new ones. Maybe that’s the point.

In Issue 14 of Hadara Magazine, he reflects on a lifetime behind the camera, the stories told through some of his most memorable photographs, and the curiosity that continues to shape the way he sees the world.
