No, just find something interesting in another language and get stick to it, my was @GameGengo, for Japanese, and a top guy @HackingChinese , when you see those works, you realize how awesome, but how hard a task of learning a language is.
And of course if you buy a textbook.

Second that. I think there is a lot to figure out on how to do this best still. I liked that @HackingChinese explored it a bit in this: hackingchinese.com/using-ai-…

Great article😀. Thank you for sharing this.
Myth 7 is so true (as of course the other ones too). I am a native speaker of multiple Indian languages. Yet, I have met so many new learners who speak them with such integrity and correctness, that I start questioning myself 😀.

This was a really good episode.
This kind of topic really makes clear that Olle has the learning success of his audience as the primary aim.
Anyways, for those of use who have improving our Chinese as a long term goal every episode of @HackingChinese is totally worth the time. 👍

同流合污 - tóng liú hé wū
This is one of the most interesting idioms I looked up in the dictionary this week. Its meaning can be guessed when you understand the characters.
同 - tóng - alike, same, similar
流 - liú - kind, type (of people)
合 - hé - join, combine
污 - wū - dirty, filthy, foul
Some of the above characters have other meanings, but the above interpretations are obvious even without looking them up in the dictionary. Here are the definitions of the idiom:
- wallow in the mire with somebody
- associate with an evil person
- partner in crime
- to follow the bad example of others
- join someone in their evildoing
- sink to the level of
If you have a solid understanding of Chinese, you can often understand (or at least guess at) the meanings of idioms without looking them up in the dictionary. However, it's always good to look up them up anyway just to confirm. And incidentally, I also check the definition in Chinese as well, because oftentimes the English "definitions" are interpretations that differ slightly from what is listed in English. And of course, the idioms sometimes need to be interpreted differently depending on how the author uses them. I'll make a separate post about that later....

Also, having just returned from a week of 100% Chinese immersion on our summer camp, I totally concur with this: "The problem for most people who don’t live in immersion environment is listening to podcasts really isn’t enough. Sure, it’s a great start, but it’s not enough."
