Does anybody have an overview over the SKU numbers for #IBM POWER9 CPUs? Want to buy a bigger one for my @RaptorEng Blackbird, but most sellers only give you the SKU number without details.
FreeBSD uses 206 MB of RAM on desktop.
Its 15.0-RELEASE with #PKGBASE and @XLibreDev X11 server and @Openbox/@Tint2/@Dzen2 desktop.
The htop(1) shows 230 MB but I subtracted:
- 19 MB for xterm(1)
- 5 MB for htop(1)
230 - 19 - 5 = 206
They were only used to measure RAM usage.

Il n'y a pas que le monde Linux qui est une alternative à Microsoft ou Apple. Il y a FreeBSD dans le tweet cité.
L'os du demon est une alternative crédible.

Do you run #FreeBSD 15? The #syslog_ng project needs your help! We could not reproduce in-house, but there might be a bug in syslog-ng 4.9.0 related to #inotify on @FreeBSD 15. Could you test it in your environment?

FreeBSD 14.3-RELEASE images are starting to hit mirrors.
Reminder: It's not official until a GPG-signed email goes out to the freebsd-announce mailing list. We probably won't have to pull the release at this point, but if we do it wouldn't be the first time it has happened.

ESP32 “backdoor”? Not so fast.
Yes, hidden HCI commands allow deep access to memory, flash, and Bluetooth internals. BUT:
❌ Not remotely exploitable via Bluetooth
❌ Not an OTA attack
✔ Requires wired HCI access
✔ Requires high privileges on controller
It’s a post-exploitation tool, not an instant game-over. If an attacker already controls the host device, you’re cooked anyway.
Hype ≠ Reality.

If you work with #FreeBSD ports, you already know about portlint.
I also find ports-mgmt/portfmt very useful. It reformats the Makefile for you.
portfmt Makefile > Makefile.patched
review
mv Makefile.patched Makefile
profit

Today I shut down my TrueNAS CORE NAS, swapped the disks and it's now running #FreeBSD 14.2 with all services in bastille jails.
There are still a few things I need to document or set up (e.g. zfs replication, monitoring, firewall rules), but all in all it is up and running. 😎

Why would three hosts in different data centers each hit a 'PF states limit reached' situation at the same time?
I couldn't see the connections, but @LibreNMS had the data.

Not pleased @Docker is nearly doubling its subscription fee this year: docker.com/pricing/november-…
Luckily alternatives are finally not as painful to adopt. Was happy paying a little to support Docker for convenience they provide. But $60 -> $108 is steep

GhostBSD 24.07.1 is here! This release marks our shift from building OS packages via GhostBSD ports to FreeBSD PKGBSD, enhancing performance and stability. If you haven’t updated to 24.04.2, we recommend backing up and reinstalling with 24.07.1 to avoid potential issues due to this significant change.
24.07.1 also includes an OS update to 14.1-STABLE, software updates, minor NetworkMGR improvements, and two OpenSSH security fixes. For more details, check out the full announcement ghostbsd.org/news/GhostBSD_2….
Thank you for your support!

FreeBSD keeps on expanding its disk space usage (largely but not exclusively due to debug symbols) so I'm planning on shipping new "small" FreeBSD AMIs. Details on the freebsd-cloud list: lists.freebsd.org/archives/f…
