The Coastal Plain League (CPL) partnered with @HilinskisHope to promote Mental Health Awareness throughout the 2023 summer season. Hilinski's Hope, is a leading mental health advocacy organization established by Mark and Kym Hilinski in memory of their son Tyler, a talented college football quarterback who tragically lost his life to suicide. Since its formation, the Hilinskis have been dedicated to telling Tyler’s story, including how they were affected, as well as promoting mental health awareness and providing essential resources to athletes and individuals within the sports world. Partnering with the CPL through @berkleighmezz , the league’s Director of Videography and Media Content/Sideline Reporter, the Hilinskis were able to meet with nine teams throughout the summer to tell their story and break the stigma of mental health. This groundbreaking partnership brought significant attention to the importance of mental health awareness within the sports community, fostering a supportive environment for athletes, coaches, and fans alike. The CPL's commitment to fostering the overall development of its players extends beyond the field, and the partnership with Hilinski's Hope underscores the league's dedication to prioritizing mental health support within the sports community. “We are proud to partner with Hilinski's Hope and join their mission to create a safe space for mental health discussions in the sports industry,” said Justin Sellers, Deputy Commissioner of the Coastal Plain League, who expressed his enthusiasm for this partnership. “The well-being of our athletes is of utmost importance and we believe that raising awareness and providing support for mental health challenges will strengthen the fabric of our league. The message Mark and Kym share is one all athletes, and young people in high school and up, should hear, and we thank them for what they are doing!" By encouraging open conversations about mental health and providing essential resources, the Hilinskis and CPL have laid the foundation for a healthier and more compassionate environment throughout the league; and they look to continue their partnership in the future.
