Most countries have enough resources to fund UBI as well as GBI programs. An example is Canada, which can build a $1 trillion sovereign wealth fund from mineral wealth alone. Another is Kenya, which has one of the world's largest deposits of niobium, a rare and valuable metal used in many industries worth over $35 billion. The problem is not the lack of resources but the will to provide equality to all citizens. See how Canada can do it👇
Basic income has already worked for decades. Guaranteed basic income lowers poverty, like child/senior benefits. UBI shares common resources, like Alaska's oil dividend. Critics usually ignore this and debate their own strawman instead. 🧵

Every religion advocates this. And the ever-growing impact of technology on the world of work makes it possible if only we eliminate the profit motive in the supply of these essential needs. The transitional solution if Universal Basic Income.

Read more at our Substack about how right-wing groups are encouraging states like Arkansas to get rid of protections for young workers. "Some of the arguments against protections [in the early 20th century] are some of the same arguments we're hearing around the country now." Link: substack.perfectunion.us/p/t…

Arkansas was one of the first states to pass a ban on child labor more than a century ago. Now Arkansas is part of a wave of states undoing child labor protections. As a new @AACF report found, that rollback is happening as child labor violations skyrocket.

Atlanta Amazon workers are now organizing a union with the @Teamsters. This follows a wave of worker organizing at the corporate giant in New York, California, Illinois and beyond. Each step take to unionize at Amazon is a massive victory for the working class.
Amazon drivers at DGT8 in Atlanta are now Amazon Teamsters! We marched on the boss today to demand that #AmazonHaveASeat and negotiate a Teamsters contract that guarentees the pay, safety, and repect we deserve. Stay tuned for more video from this historic day!

The fight for dignity and respect for America's working class, postal service edition
NEW: USPS letter carriers tell us they’re sleeping in their vehicles and bathing at union halls because they get paid poverty wages. They were promised a historic new contract this year. Instead, they were offered 1.3% raises. Now they’re revolting.

This is the biggest labor fight that nobody is talking about — it involves more than 250,000 workers and impacts every block of every city and suburb in America.

10B humanoid robots by 2040, cheaper than wages. xitter.cf/ubi_works/status/18561…
By 2040, there will be more humanoid robots than humans—on the order of 10 billion robots that can do any labour and cost less than a car. UBI is the difference between shared abundance and extreme inequality.

Yes we need UBI, but we also should have started it decades ago when productivity first decoupled from wages. It's the downward pressure on wages that's the biggest concern, not permanent unemployment. And we SHOULD all be benefitting from automation. scottsantens.com/ai-will-rap…

Without a Universal Basic Income, the United States could face a major crisis. AI and robotics are advancing so quickly that many American jobs are already being replaced, and this trend is only going to grow. People don’t realize how close we are to a future where most jobs could disappear. Think about the possibility of AI reaching Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) in the next five years and Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI) shortly after that. Now imagine humanoid robots that are stronger, faster, more precise, and more flexible than humans. If these robots are powered by that superintelligent AI, they would essentially have a “brain” that makes them capable of outperforming humans in almost every way. These super-intelligent, super-capable robots would be able to do almost any job better than a human could, and they would cost less than paying human workers. One single robot in a household could be your family's mechanic, handyman, plumber, baby sitter, chef, Heating/AC repairman (Although AC's themself would likely be self-reparing). The only jobs that might survive are the ones that require a human connection or emotional understanding. Without something like Universal Basic Income to help people survive this transition, millions of Americans could end up unemployed and without support, all while the GDP of America increases exponentially. This is a serious issue, and we need to start preparing for it now before it’s too late.

Our common wealth is being plundered at scale without compensation. This includes the value of land and natural resources. It's time we reclaimed it to pay us common dividends.
