Excellent meeting of the Loan Charge and Tax Payer Fairness APPG covering HMRCs behaviour in relation to not only the Loan Charge but also pensions fraud, mistaken ID and VAT fraud. Everyone felt it was a useful and productive meeting with a number of MPs present. More to come..

Will any substantive action be taken as a result? As you know #loancharge settlement letters are landing on doorsteps and people are understandably stressed and worried.

The Tories deserve the Nasty party name. They have done awful things to their own people.

@JimHarraHMRC knew in 2019 that law was not clear & couldn't prove wrong doing but still he sat in front of @CommonsTreasury committee with Mary Aiston & lied,@HMRCgovuk & @Jesse_Norman were aware of suicides but continued to use behavioural insights to exert max stress on people

BBC EXPOSED! - Civil Servants Writing the News Inside the Newsroom! For years the BBC has told us it is independent, impartial, and free from government interference. They were very proud of that line. Now the Telegraph reports that 39 civil servants have been placed inside BBC

Thanks for spending time to tell your story. I know @TheRising_Moon will be there too, and both of your experiences should shock those MPs present. However, it won't be a surprise to #LoanCharge victims who have suffered as a result of @HMRCgovuk rotten culture for 15 to 20 yrs

BREAKING NEWS 🔥Today, at 2pm in Westminster, I address the All-Party Parliamentary Group on the Loan Charge and Tax Payer Fairness as I hold a deeply distressing national distinction: I am the first known British citizen to be wrongly named and shamed by HMRC on their public list of deliberate tax defaulters - to the tune of £132,711.25. Today, I will give witness testimony on HMRC's toxic culture and the need for major reform. After the event, I will post my speech on my website thechangepress.com #memoir #taxpayerbillofrights #ginoscontraband @journomadeleine @jeffprestridge @willydunn @taxwatch @TheTaxcast @LCAG_2019 @loanchargeAPPG @crimlawuk @TaxReformUK @thelawyermag

Given the notion of political impartiality written into the Civil Service Code, the idea that civil servants contributed to BBC journalism which scrutinised parties is eyebrow-raising, to say the least. In the time since Davie's pronouncement that BBC Verify would go global, The Spectator's Reality Check has debunked myths about the Chancellor, our energy system, net zero, dodgy academics and migration numbers to name a few. All without government minders. Only after the Telegraph revealed this did the BBC suspend the scheme. Will BBC Verify continue to limp on after yet another miscalculation? ✍️ Sam McPhail Article | spectator.com/article/could-…

"Calculation also takes account of historic promoters fees" Yes, adding fees back & charging tax on MONEY NEVER RECEIVED!! Even 'independent' #McCannReview lead Ray McCann (31 years at HMRC inc setting up DOTAS) didn't recommend this.

John Pilger, one of the most respected journalists of his time, was a vocal and persistent critic of the BBC, famously describing it as “one of the world’s most refined propaganda services and an extension of the establishment"

The BBC's business model is obsolete. The idea that people need to subscribe to a particular channel in order to legally watch other channels is deeply offensive and immoral. The licence system must be abolished now, and the BBC allowed to enjoy the refreshing breeze of free competition. Perhaps worse then that, though: the BBC News is no longer a serious news channel. It has become an agitprop outlet featuring rather incompetent 'journalism', navel-gazing, sob stories, scare stories, little if any, often biased, 'news', and uninteresting, long, interviews. There is a lack of relevant news, let alone balanced information.

It's not just fact that articles not impartial/independent as, HMRC at least, have track record of trying to "control the narrative" as #LoanChargeScandal victims will aware. #FOI's revealed HMRC monitoring social media posts of MP's and journalists.

This is deeply concerning, and is yet another example of behaviour that erodes public trust in the BBC. The reported involvement of civil service fact-checkers in writing articles and producing analysis for the BBC raises serious questions about impartiality and independence. Our civil servants, who are tax-payer funded, should not be influencing news coverage by our public service broadcaster - there is a clear conflict of interest. When you then overlay the Government’s plans to designate certain news providers as “trustworthy” and make them more prominent online it gets even more sinister. The risks of this, when the boundaries between Whitehall and the BBC are blurred, are obvious.
