I was saddened to hear of the passing of Second World War veteran, Don Turrell. Don served with the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles), landing after D-Day before being badly injured. Don was a regular visitor to the Netherlands with @TaxiCharity and will be sorely missed @ukinnl
In #Venray Limburg today. We remember soldiers of the 1st Battalion the Royal Norfolk Regiment who fought here in autumn 1944 - also the Dutch civilians who were killed. The battle of #Overloon was one of the bloodiest battles in the Netherlands @ukinnl @Gemeente_Venray 🇬🇧 🇳🇱

I had a good conversation with the new British Prime Minister @Andyburnham. The friendship between the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, as North Sea neighbours, is very strong: from trade and AI to the energy transition, and from human rights to our security and defence.
We both recognise the ongoing need to support Ukraine and the leading role the UK plays in the Coalition of the Willing. The Netherlands will also help to strengthen ties between the UK and the EU.
As NATO partners, the UK and the Netherlands are investing in (joint) defence projects and together we are preparing a mission to guarantee freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, when circumstances permit.
I look forward to continuing our cooperation with Andy Burnham. We will meet soon in London or The Hague.

12 years on from the downing of MH17, the UK remains unwavering in its commitment to pursuing truth, justice and accountability for the victims of this tragedy and their families. We continue to work alongside the Netherlands and other grieving nations to ensure accountability.

Good news! In Ankara, I signed a new maritime partnership between our countries with Prime Minister @Keir_Starmer, worth nearly 3 billion euros.
Dutch and British companies will work together to build four of the most advanced amphibious transport ships for each of our countries.
This deal will create hundreds of jobs and provides a significant boost to NATO in its efforts to counter maritime threats.
A great visit to Katwijk Museum yesterday and the impressive exhibition ‘Sailing for Freedom - the indispensable role of the Dutch Merchant Navy in the Second World War’. Thank you to Jacob and Hubert of the Stichting koopvaardijpersoneel 40-45 for hosting me @ukinnl 🇬🇧 🇳🇱

The 81st anniversary of liberation of The Hague with Mayor van Zanen & Prinses Irene Brigade, formed from troops who arrived in 🇬🇧 in May 1940 - based in Wolverhampton before returning to the Netherlands in 1944 (Operation Market Garden) & entering The Hague as liberators 🇬🇧 🇳🇱
Excellent meeting with Energy Infrastructure & Nuclear Issues Minister Jo-Annes de Bat. As North Sea Neighbours, the UK & the Netherlands are already close partners on energy.
