Robin Williams' daughter Zelda tells fans: “Please, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad.”
“If you’ve got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone even, full stop. It’s dumb, it’s a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it’s NOT what he’d want. To watch the legacies of real people be condensed down to ‘this vaguely looks and sounds like them so that’s enough’, just so other people can churn out horrible TikTok slop puppeteering them is maddening. You’re not making art, you’re making disgusting, over-processed hotdogs out of the lives of human beings, out of the history of art and music, and then shoving them down someone else’s throat hoping they’ll give you a little thumbs up and like it. Gross.”
"And for the love of EVERY THING, stop calling it ‘the future,’ AI is just badly recycling and regurgitating the past to be re-consumed. You are taking in the Human Centipede of content, and from the very very end of the line, all while the folks at the front laugh and laugh, consume and consume."

A new Cochrane review of interventions for quitting vaping has been published today.
There is low-certainty evidence that varenicline may help people to stop vaping.
Text-messaging based interventions may also help youth/young adults to quit.

I'll probably be accused of invalidating women's feelings but this is an example of how "listening to women" about their birth experience could lead us astray and lead to worse, not better, care.
The author of this piece experienced a vaginal tear during a water birth at home. This was assessed by a midwife using the torch from a mobile phone to be a first degree tear, which was then repaired at home by the same midwife.
She has continued to experience problems and pain for years. Doubtless this is very distressing and I have empathy for that.
The author says she wasn't given the option to not repair and believes she would have had a better outcome had she not had the tear repaired.
So is this an example of over intervention and lack of informed consent causing harm?
IMHO, most unlikely.
In fact, it is more likely the mobile phone torch wielding midwife wrongly assessed the tear, which was far more serious than appreciated and may well have been so because of the water birth (one of many pseudoscientific practices implemented and encouraged within NHS maternity care in the name of patient choice but without adequate evidence base).
What might have made a difference to the outcome? Medical assessment and repair in a sterile environment with medical lighting by a doctor with substantial surgical training and experience.
We must not allow listening to patients to be an excuse to not adhere to the principles of science and evidence based medicine or to allow unproven quackery a free pass into our medical care.
This is a very sad story, but surely unusual to have such awful long-term consequences from suturing a first-degree tear. Any thoughts? metro.co.uk/2024/10/19/gave-…

Feminism, apparently, is when women are mocked for their appearance.
So glad Julie Bindel is out there protecting women.
